JVC HAR-X700 and 900. Two of the best dynamics? Am I nuts?

Also, since the HA-RX900 are semi-open headphones, do they sound more like open headphones or closed ones? How would you compare them to the Audio-Technica ATH-AD900 or AKG K 701?

I hear a lot of people compare the HA-RX700 and 900 as a budget ATH-A700 and ATH-A900.

I thought the HA-RX700 was compared to the ATH-A900 a lot, not the ATH-A700. Are you saying that both headphones sound like closed Audio-Technica headphones?

The seem to have AT drivers. Whether they are the 900 drivers or not I don't know. They sound different though. The X900 has a pretty big sound stage and a strong bass response for an AT driver. The X700 has good bass too. Just tighter and not quite as big.

THe X700 is more forward sounding and has a smaller soundstage. The X900 has a bit more laid back presentation, deeper sounding with more "air".

Both have crazy good detail for the $$.

Good information. So are your impressions of the JVC with an amp, without, or both? (edit)

Thanks for the information!

Would you say the HA-RX900 sound more like open headphones or closed ones? Do they have a dark sound signature, or do they sound bright?

Could you compare them to the ATH-AD900 or AKG K 701?

X900 sound kind of open.

Bigger sound stage than the AD900. Not as high highs, mids not quite as good but bigger tight bass. Better detail? Maybe. Pretty much a strong point here.

701? Well for one the X900 bass is way better. Not as good in the highs as the 701. Probably not the mids either but not far off. More of a vertical soundstage than the 701s bubble sound stage. The 900 has good left to right and top to bottom but back to front and size-wise the 701 is better and bigger.

Crazy thing is that the 900 is in the same room with those two worthy headphones.

I do not know if it is better or not amped but unamped it is better than a unamped 701 for sure. The X900 is pretty easy to drive. I am getting pretty big bass out of a modded x-fi elite pro.

How good are these JVC's with blocking outside noise?

Not bad. I can't hear my wife yelling at me from downstairs lol. The 700s block more noise though.

I have received rx900,i dont know but i am bit disappointed, out of box they sound congested and the highs sounds very poor & with lack of detail .
they are quite behind compared to hd600,i will burn-in the rx900 for 100hrs to see if they get better.

This is what I need to know. Before I buy a pair of these, having D2000s, HD650s and ATH-W1000s, would there be any use in owning these?

They sound like crap out of the box. The improvement from burn in is dramatic. Just be patient.

Anyone tried the HA-DX1? They look sort of AKG like.
