JVC HAR-X700 and 900. Two of the best dynamics? Am I nuts?

Thanks for the info Emooze.

Just bought them on impulse after reading the first couple pages of this thread. If I do not like them, I will try trading up to some Grado 60 or 80 with cash. I have always wanted to try a Grado...

If you're talking sound quality, a lot of people preferred the RX700's over the HD555's if I'm not mistaken.

As for Grados, I don't think anyone's compared them.

To me Grados seem to have a bit more detail, especially on the higher end. The bass is also well defined but the 700's have more and its solid and impacting. And you can definitely tell which is closed and which is open. The Grado's just have that airy feeling to them.

Edit: Should say I'm comparing my SR80 (no i) to the 700's out of my m3 which is out of my laptop's headphone out.

Thanks for the reply Emooze.

Solid and defined kind of mean the same thing in my audio lingo... Are you saying that the bass of the RX700 is just as "defined", but more (as in texture, depth, ______ (insert adjective), etc.)?

I want something cheap that I can lug around, fun like a Grado, circumaural, closed, but without the boomy bass that is associated with cheap closed headphones (as in no extra bass please).

I had to go back and run a few songs just solidify my thoughts on the bass.

The grado's definitely have impact and depth, but only by a hair more. Barely noticeable to me. The 700's however, have more volume but still not into the distracting levels. Adding 100 ohms of extra impedance draws out impact, depth and volume to both but more to the 700's. They for sure are not boomy and don't sound cheap at all.

Again this was my equipment and my ears, hahaha
