JH Audio Lola Impressions and Discussions

I did mine through Naga Audio. Yes, JH Audio do not do reshells.
The sound for the custom is 80% similar to the universal except that I do not experience as much sibilance (probably due to the eartips I used on the universals)
I also did not like the fit for the universal that much as they were sticking out too far and felt insecure.

These are my 3rd pair of customs and I have now gone all customs and will avoid purchasing in-ears that are only available in universal form.
I’m going to have to seriously consider this. The other option would be to bite the bullet and get a pair of custom Layla’s :) mind if I ask how much Naga charges to do that? I’m sure you need to go to the audiologist and all that... I’ve never gotten customs so I’m not sure how difficult the whole process is

It is an easy process. You go to the manufacture website such as JH Audio and print out the impressions instructions. You can also look for recommended audiologists on their site. If you don’t find one close, look at the list of others like Empire Ears or 64 Audio. Once you find an audiologist, make the appointment. It is a fairly quick process getting the impressions. The important thing is to stay still.

Order the CIEM before sending impressions! You will need to print the paperwork to place in the box with the impressions.

The audiologists costs between $80 and $200 mine did two impressions for $100 as I had ordered a custom from two different manufacturers.

Awesome thanks for the advice! What I read before made it sound complicated and easy to screw up. Like having to set your jaw a certain way, etc. sounds easy

The manufacturers have impressions instructions that show the audiologists exactly how they want the impression, even instruct on bite blocks.

if you still don’t find a nearby audiologist from manufacture websites then just call a few. Make sure they know this is for Audio IEMs and not for hearing aids. JH Audio will do the impressions at their Nashville, KY location if you can get there.

The impressions are the most important part of getting a CIEM. With good impressions, my two CIEMs were both perfect when received. No need to send them back for readjustment. If one gets poor impressions, that is where the back and forth for adjustments originates.

I paid US$500 for the reshell service, inclusive of ear impressions.
The overall service was through treoo.com. They have a few different vendors to choose from for the reshell.

Waiting time was 12 weeks. I guess it might generally take 10 weeks as mine was across the year end and Lunar New Year holidays.

So here’s something else that just occurred to me. I love my Lola’s but they just hired some idiot at work who sits in the next cube and talks all day.

I’ve considered some ANC TWS earbuds but there’s obviously nothing out there that will have sound as good as the Lola’s. Even full sized ANC headphones like the $300 Sony’s wouldn’t compare to the Lola’s or my Audeze LCD-2’s

So let me ask... I would think that custom IEM’s give much better noise isolation Would it be as good ANC?

I like the reshell idea but it’d be brutal to be without my Lola’s :)

Should I pick up some custom Layla’s or branch out to another brand? I usually listen to classical, blues and guitar/instrumentals, opera, female vocals... no rap. Probably looking to stay on the $2k’ish range, definitely not more than $3k

Have a look on youtube as there are plenty of videos there of people having their impressions taken. Also stress to the chosen audiologist that these are for custom in ear monitors and NOT custom hearing aids as there are different ways to do the process. If you are not sure they know what they are talking about walk away. I wasted far too much time and effort (not to mention money) before I found one who seems to know what they are doing. Did send a video of the process (I used the one from 64audio attached to email)to them and they were fine about it.

Good luck.

Just saw this. I work in a factory with 20 machines going all day. Had customs in the other day and didn't hear the godawful racket mine was making (which wasn't normal!) it took a supervisor coming over to tap me on the shoulder to ask could I hear that to which the answer was no!

Wow that’s amazing! Come to thing of it, it would be nice to drown out my boss’s voice as well. Haha

what kind of customs do you have?

But the vendors for reshelling, are local brands in Sg such as AAW, fatfreq (carousell)?

I have a JH Roxanne planning to sell it. Would like to provide more info to the new owner as I understand from my local distributor AV One, that JH doesn’t do reshelling.

The OP reshelled through Naga Audio; not JH. They specialise in JH reshells, and their services are available through TREOO.com. TREOO’s offices are in Singapore: The Noel Building on Playfair Road; near the Tai Seng MRT. There, you can place the order and have your impressions taken as well.

i have a question, do u put the tips to sit flush with the stem so that all sound ports are visible, as I noticed a big difference in sound when i put the tip flush with the nozzle compared to non flush fit

Funny you say that, I was wondering the same thing yesterday. I looked and noticed that my Acoustone tips are all the way slid in so I can touch the tip of the Lola’s “stem” (not sure if that’s the right word) with the tip of my index finger

My only worry was ear wax so I bought one of those little vacuum things that JH sells. Still need to hook it up

Glad to see this thread with more traffic. Don’t think I can justify Lola now given all the IEMs I have now, but might sell Angie and then I could think about it, LOL.
