I've decided to go with the JH audios, leaning towards the 13s over the 16s, I was wondering if anybody used the ambient tube option? How does it affect the sound? Pros/Cons or is it something exclusively used for live performances? Thanks, Len

I would not recommend the ambient tube option unless you are using these as on stage monitors and want to be able to hear natural room acoustics along with your mix.

The only reason this option was originally included is that a surprising number of musicians found it disconcerting to be totally shut off (isolation of an IEM) from their audience while performing and started pulling out one monitor to better "feel" their space. Not recommended for obvious reason so the ambient canal was developed to allow a portal for room acoustics to leak back into the mix of the drivers naturally.

For pure audiophile listening purposes it will effect sound in a potentially negative way by adding outside noise to your mix.

From Jh audio Facebook page: We do not recommend ambient vents for critical listeners as these drastically affect the sound quality of the earpieces.

Quote:

Q: What is an ambient vent?
A: An ambient vent is a small tube, which is bored into an earpiece to limit isolation. This allows the user to hear outside, “ambient” sounds. Typically, stage performers who do not wish to be completely cut-off from their audiences request the ambient vent option. We do not recommend ambient vents for critical listeners as these drastically affect the sound quality of the earpieces.

resurection in progress...

has anyone actually tried this..
im wondering if it actually changes the sound signature or flatness, makes it sound like you have cupped your hands over your ears and gotten that music cominf from a coffe can sound,  or if it simply ads outside noises

cant they be plugged.

it sounds like it actually might be a nice option especially if you can simply plug it whenever you wish

i notice they sell plugs on their site...
