JDS Labs Element 4 Released

Also, any plans to bring core to iOS? I normally use my iPad on my desk as my source and having to unplug and switch to the laptop to do any DSP work isn’t great. @jseaber
Not possible currently: iOS does not expose any of the low-level APIs needed for an App to communicate with a USB device. Rumors is that Apple may lift that restriction in the near future, but for now, there is nothing JDSLabs can do about it.

Roger that. Being able to store multiple EQs in the future will alleviate the problem somewhat. I’ll just grab a stand for the laptop and move the iPad over to the coffee table to use with the q5k.

Thanks for the info!

Q5K… You may have noticed that you can configure the Q5K from the Chrome extension (or Android app) through USB. You can use the Q5K connected via USB into a iThing—it plays… but you can’t configure it in the iOS App: that, must be done through BT and BT only.
???
Same reason…

If rme adi, Fiio Q15 (xmos), Qudelix can do it, so can jds labs with a custom app - it’s just added development effort.

Got my Element is today and loving it so far. EQ works great, just need more options for the bands so we can do more than just one bass/treble shelf.

I would love to see manual options for different bands like shelfs or peaks. This way we would be far more flexible.

And and option to add or remove bands would be great. A lot of my EQ profiles are using 12 bands for example.

Looking at the announcement page for E4 and Core today and they ask for people to comment if they’d like an Android/iOS app in the future. So I think you’re right.

Are you sure RME, FiiO, and Qudelix have iOS app allowing setting PEQ through USB?
I know for a fact that Qudelix doesn’t: on iOS, it’s through Bluetooth only.

EDIT: you are correct for RME on iPads. The ADI remote app is leveraging MIDI interface and commands. Implementing a MIDI interface on something like Element IV is… a new device!

Hi all, maybe someone has heard the element from the Sennheiser hd 660s2?
Yes, I've had the EL4 for over a month, and have mainly listened with the 660S2, it's a good combo. For me, the S2 is warm enough already, so I like it best with a neutral sounding dac/amp, like the Element. It also has way more power than the S2 requires, I've never even gotten close to needing high gain.

It's a shame we have no uk dealers. Elise audio and audio sanctuary are good places to do deals with FYI.
Also, as someone who found the atom 2 overly neutral, boring and slightly harsh. Would the element 4 be a worthy 2nd go to for jds labs gear?
I currently own a xduoo 05 pro with sparkos ss6302 op amps with an akm dac. Its very close to ifi sound which I adore but find not good for 3d imagery, (very 2d) the xduoo has great 3d imagery.
Would trading this in for an element 4 be of any benefit to me? Or at least no noticeable degradation? i am sensitive to these changes.

I don't find the Atom 2 boring or harsh (neutral certainly, though) but I'd be happy to compare against the Element IV when it arrives ... Hopefully in a week or so.

I am hoping for a bit of warmth, maybe a bit more punch.

I’m curious if anybody else still has the original Element and has upgraded to this or one of the more recent ones. There is a lot new in the way of features, but I’m curious if any of them would actually translate to it sounding better.

I currently run speakers out of the RCA’s and then flip to headphones when appropriate.

The built in eq for sure makes everything sound better. The knob is perfect. Not necessarily sounds related. But with the previous you were already getting end game performance. Like for like assuming you don’t need the extra power it’s going to sound the same. I have both with me I use in different rooms.

Thanks, I appreciate the comparison since you have both. Maybe I’m a purist, but I’ve never thought of EQing my headphones. Maybe I need to rethink that stance.
