JDS Labs Element 4 Released

Auto gain was already there in previous gen.

More importantly they added some power (up to 3.2W at 32Ohm), changed power supply to a beefier one and changed data port from usb-b to usb-c.

I wonder if it sounds any different from III that I currently own.

I wonder how this would compare to something like the RME ADI-2 DAC. It would be about 680 euros with shipping so about half the RME (RME price went up like crazy in the past 3-4 years, I should've get it back then...). It could be a good non Chi-Fi option if someone want on device EQ, I always wanted to try a JDS product since I read a lot of good things about them and this one seems to be a decent unit even with the costs of import.

Have had mine for about a week, first JDS labs product, I think. Very very elegant looking and the clear knob is pretty slick, the led under the ring is almost blue, perhaps it’s just my eyes getting old.

I expected it to be quite a bit smaller than what it actually is. The core is a little finicky as it wants to save on every digit, it would be nice if it would wait to save until enter or return is pushed.

The Element IV sounds great and doesn’t have any of the treble glare that I typically hear in measurement amps, especially those that are paired with ess dacs.

It is nice being able to switch back and forth between peq and no peq as the element remembers the volume setting thus allowing me to set the volume the same between peq and no peq to hear the differences. No discernible differences between using peq on the element vs Roon.

I think the web app is still in beta, no doubt it will be improved. In the meantime, I wonder if it would be easier to type the value in the address bar, then copy and paste it.

We pushed an update to Core yesterday to improve this: EQ text fields now update only when you press Enter, Tab, or otherwise move away from the field.

Much more in the works!
