WNBC - thanks again for this recommendation! I just posted a review of it on my site - you can access it here if you'd like: http://www.jazzjunkie.net/

Needless to say I enjoyed it immensely!! Looking forward to getting my hands on Natsukashii and some of their older recordings.

Might as well post my 2nd favorite modern band, Helge Lien Trio

I enjoyed your review and you nailed it on the head multiple times.  I suppose Jazz will never be mainstream but even among jazz fans they've probably never heard of this trio.  I think it was pure luck that I had stumbled upon them on HD Tracks because they are not going to be on anyone's top 100 jazz bands of all time (though I might argue differently if we could break up the categories into modern and fundamental jazz).

I agree as well that these guys can take you on a ride that starts off laid back and then take you on deep funk, experimental ride.

I will check out your site for many gems.  Maybe there needs to be a good iPhone/Droid app that tracks great jazz bands because there are a lot mentioned in this thread that I have never heard.

Hi guys,
I'm quite new to jazz and I like this music, it's so rich ! But there are so many styles of jazz.
So far my favourite album is The black saint and the sinner lady by Charle Mingus
Do any of you have recommandation for me considering my specific tastes ?

Thanks a lot and keep the thread up !

^ I haven't spent too much time with it, but I shall right now. I've been drifting into less structured music lately

Anyway - while we're into this genre, Esbjörn Svensson Trio is of course a must for anyone to know

E.S.T   /    Esbjörn Svensson Trio

My favorite albums are Viaticum, Leucocyte, 7 days of falling if I had to pick any - but they're all great.
