Is there a better "memory foam" mattress than Tempur-Pedic?

My experience has been quite teh opposite with latex. It's rebound is very slow. Funny how people have very different experiences with the same product - unlike headphones.

I've tried several of the off-brand pillows (from target/bed bath and beyond/costco). and they generally were pretty bad. no matter how cheap/pricey. either too firm/too hard, and commonly very poor at releasing heat.

My friend had a tempur-pedic mattress topper lying around for our first 2 years of college... I've used it several times and it was very comfortable. A few months ago, my family bought a foam mattress topper from another brand at costco. It currently sits on my bed at home. As far as I can tell this one is comparable to the tempur-pedic.

Unlike the off-brand foam pillows which when compared to tempur-pedic foam which was nowhere near in quality, this other brand I found at costco was quite close in quality. It's comfortable, and I haven't had issues with the heat building up and not getting released. Although, I have not been able to use the bed this summer, since one of my siblings has taken to sleeping on my bed while I was gone at college. (He can sleep through anything, so I can't really attest to if the foam has trouble releasing heat in summer conditions) I don't think we have the box anymore that it came with... to help others identify it... I do believe it's advertised as "comes with a pillowtop mattress cover".

I live in southern california, both my school and home-home locations are in SoCal. to help those gauge my surrounding temperature if you so wish to know.
and whenever i refer to "foam" in my post, I meant the "memory-foam" not sure if there's a difference.

I too am using a Tempur pillow but was actually under the impression that have a lifespan of around half a dozen years. I think mine is losing some of the support it had when I first bought it - I do like the stiffness of the support pillow for the benefit of my neck.

I do the same - a regular hard non-spring mattress with a cheaper (than Tempur) "memory" foam topper and it works great. I use one by a Hong Kong brand called Sinomax.

I've been sleeping on my TempSoma (Sam's Club) memory foam mattress for over two years now and love it. There is no sink hole where I lay or any breakdown of the foam whatsoever. I looked at the TemperPedic, but decided to take a chance on the TempSoma at less than 1/4 the price, and have been very happy with it. I've been using the TempSoma memory foam pillow for four years with no problems at all.

I've got a Tempur-Pedic neck pillow that I like a lot. Big improvement over any of the standard pillows I've had before. I never have neck pain anymore when I wake up. I laid on a tempur-pedic mattress in the mall a while ago and it was really nice. If I had the extra money, I'd get one in a second.

Love their pillow. We got the top of their line bed because my wife was having trouble sleeping and I hoped it would help. It's very nice. I find it hard to get too excited over a bed but I have to admit I do look forward to going home and getting to sleep in it!

I heard from a bed salesman that Tempur-Pedic is used for burn victims in some hospitals. I guess it has something to do with heat dissipitation or something.

Anyway, although he didn't carry them, he recommended them way over the ones typically sold at retailers.

They're so darn expensive, though.

If they help you sleep better, it's an investment worth making.

Ok, since nobody has asked yet, I might as well just get it over with. So how's sex on it? It's practically an absolute must for the mattress to be firm for the bouce-back

effect. Don't these foam-type mattresses totally kill that?

That depends really, on a great many personal issues & preferances. As is so often repeated here, you really do need to get to a Bed-Fi meet to find out for your self, really....

Again, if a topper type memory foam is used, I'd suggest the 4" X 4lb type with a 1" cotton cover(pad) then the deep pocket fitted sheets, then give it your best olympic try out session...

If you're single, I suppose you could use this question as a sort of a pick up line, which in that case, it very well may turn out to be very good for your sex life, I suppose...

Other functions have been sucessfully performed with the bed besides a comfortable nights sleep. I believe the foam mattress serves better than a water bed and has some advantages over a standard mattress. You don't need a spotter as your target stays in place and the headboard don't take as much abuse. The only downside I can tell is no cornerspring but you go to other household devices for that.

I should have been more specific. You're right. Mine broke down after approx. 9 years, but I received a new Queen size one for free when I bought my TP mattress/boxspring.. It been a total of 13 years between two pillows. I got an 18 month "same as cash" deal and paid $70/month. I rotate it once a month but they told me that it wasn't necessary.

Sleeping sideways on it is not a problem because when you turn over, it takes all of 3 seconds to reform to the new shape.

Funny you should mention that, because before making a $1600 investment, I had the cuhones to ask the woman on the phone about that. It is a serious question that cannot go unquestioned. She answered, and I quote "My husband and I have never had any complaints about it!"
It's kind of hard to explain, but, unlike a water bed, I feel that it takes a sexual relationship to a new level. In other words, it's better than using a regular mattress. That's as far as my explanation will go without me censoring myself
