iPod Touch Sound Quality is quite bad.

I love my iPod Touch 1g. I had it since 2006. I've paired it with an RE2. The RE2 is doing quite well too. No sign of degradation like melting rubber. In contrast, the iPod Touch's oem earbuds have gone gummy. I tore off the rubber ring and they remained usable. Same sound. If I were to make these look better, I'd baste on some epoxy and sand it round.

Now I am ready to upgrade to an iPod Touch 3rd Gen. From 16GB I might go down to 8GB since I really don't need to have all of my media with me. It's so easy to sync with my MacBook. I will slap on BestSkinsEver film on it too. That film was touch on my 1st gen. Kept it pretty mint for years.

I really wish you guys hadnt dug up this old thread - its all pretty meaningless with the release of the 3G Touch, and will only start another flame war.

Gino, if you choose to 'go down to 8GB', you do realise that you wont be getting the same internals as the 16/32GB models, nor the same SQ ?

Is that so? How about 1g vs 3g SQ? To be honest, I'm not deep into SQ these days.

Oh discussing the 1g isn't meaningless to those who are buying them used. They are going cheap now.

I'm giving my 1G Touch to my GF - it has the worst SQ of anything I own, but she like Mariah so she wont be needing anything exceptional ...

Anyone buying a used 1G Touch should really think long and hard - the 3G sounds so much better, video is nicer and you arent taking a chance on a 2-3 year old player. I admit that the 32/64GB are expensive, but one of these should see you sorted for years to come.

Same reasons why I sold my Touch 1st Gen. Shrill and sibilant as hell, bass is bloated and mids are a bit muddy. Now the Classic's in need of a new owner. Sounds even worse than the Touch with its sibilance.

Maybe the op just got a bad touch?

My 3g touch has sounded great since I bought it in September.

IMHO it sounds better than my Zune120.

Without bumping again, I noticed the date after posting it

Actually, 2007 was the original touch. 2G came out in Sept 2008.

This thread is pretty old lol. Just some personal observations, the 3g touch is a lot cleaner that the 1g touch through HP and LOD. The 1g sounded muddled through my westone 3's, but sound is clear with seperated instruments and a good amount of bass in my 3g. I'd say it's roughly on par with the 5.5g which I'm now selling.

If you are buying a 1G instead of a 2 or 3G, solely because its cheap, your in the wrong forum. If you have any interest in SQ theres no point in buying a 1G.

Ditto on that. Either get newer iPods or buy another DAP altogether. The 1G, which I had, was one of the worst ones I've experienced. I reckon my old Shuffle beats it by a margin.

How is the frequenzy graph of the Ipod Touch 3G?

My Westone UM2 with my Cowon D2 has IMO enough Bass, but if there is more possible, why not xD

The touch has more realistic FR than the D2 with almost any earphone, but it isn't quite as steady as the Fuze for balanced armatures. The D2 is destroyed by any balanced armature. The touch is better for: distortion and channel separation than the Fuze.
