I didn't notice that. That's not good at all. That's quite a turn-off for me, since I'm used to MZ-S1 battery life, which is supposedly 56 hours, but is in reality a little less. Still way ahead of this unit.

On second thought, I suppose the bottom isn't such a bad idea considering the lack of real estate on such a tiny player. Besides, it could have been much worse such as the side access of the X5.

Traditionally after a product announcement, how soon does Apple ship units to be sold in outlets like Target, Walmart, etc?

When will Apple learn that I might buy their product if they included a stupid FM radio??? How hard is it to include, everyone else practically has one.

Welcome to Head-Fi kd4. Many of the iPods sold at the big stores were HP versions, until Apple showed up too and HP exited the game. Hard to know. They tend (but not always) to sell specific models (say 20GB not 40GB). I assume this will be very popular and will make it, but who knows how long. I'd expect at least a little lag.

Also so far I haven't heard of Apple targeting the HyperM3 market.

I dunno... i'd actually prefer the 1/8" jack on the bottom of the machine. When i use my ipod, i have it upside-down in my pocket, that way i can still operate the controls comfortably inside my pocket, and don't have to flash it all around if i want to change the song or adjust the volume. And 14 hours is still a pretty damn good battery life, considering the size of that thing. And the black version looks awesome.

That being said, i'd still pay the extra $50 if i were to get a new iPod, and go for the 20GB version. Fifty bucks for five times the memory, and a little bigger size? Sounds good to me.

Or, if i were to get a USB memory stick, just something to always carry around with me, i'd probably just go with the iPod Nano, and use that as a combo DAP / portable data storage.

Does anyone know the resolution of the Nano's screen? I couldn't find that anywhere.

I'm impressed.

Don't know, but the rumors were 176 x 132, up from 138 x 110 of the Mini.

EDIT: According to this that is the case.

I carry mine in a shirt pocket and operate them through the fabric of my shirt. This is one of the reasons I preferred both the 2G and 4G models over the 3G. I never managed to manipulate the 3G's controls by simple feel.

. Heh, oh well. Thanks for the info. I wish it had as good a resolution as the normal iPods: they have 220x176. I'm just picky about that because i'd be heavy into puting my digital photos on one of those if i had one. (I currently own a 3G).

Thanks. I have a 3 day new shuffle 1GB and as much as I like the size/sound I miss the clickwheel and real Ipod interface (my wife has a mini). I was considering returning the shuffle and waiting patiently until it arrives at Target to use store credit.

The Nano seems to be only .6" wider and a hair longer than the shuffle so it could be the perfect small portable for me. I can use all of the my wife's accessories as well.

I like the headphone out on the bottom. That way you can shove it in the pocket head down and pull it out without having to flip it around or mess with the phones cable.

I have a Rio Karma so I have a jukebox already. I wanted this for real daily use.

Now the question is do I attach my 1.5 ounce nano to my 6.5 ounce SM3 so I can use better 'phones, or do I use lesser headphones such as PX100s and capitalize on the size factor?

Each negates the other to some extent.

Hmmm, maybe this is the perfect rationale for getting the new 32 Ohm DT880.
