iPod Classic!

Just sync manually. I do it that way with my 38GB libary. I mark the songs/albums i want to transfer and switch it to the iPod

... without unchecking e.g.
Automatic sync sucks, just my opinion

I'm not an iTunes user but why can't you use iTunes for this?

Because iTunes hasn't let you copy songs off an iPod for quite a few years now.

Thats only a problem if you transfer all the songs from iTunes to your iPod then delete them from iTunes. Its not meant to be used like that. So the assumption must be that you have all your songs still in iTunes.

His point was that he didn't want to have to go to the trouble of manually selecting the mix of songs he had on his previous iPod to put on this one.

Like I said I don't use an iPod or iTunes. But I would reckon there must be someway to to built a playlist of everything on an ipod, then clone that play list to another iPod. That would be almost 50% quicker than copying all the data off one ipod and onto another one, as you don't have to copy music off. Something like that.

Hmm how does iTunes work if you have 2 iPods, say a shuffle and a classic?

each ipod has it's own preference (manual sync, auto). you can have the shuffle auto fill and the classic be manual, vice versa, etc.

I've been pretty tempted to give in to buying a 160gb,my only concern is that 99% of my music is ripped to 320kb mp3.I haven't used Itunes or and Ipod in years so I'm pretty behind on their features.So my question is would I be able to transfer my mp3s directly onto the ipod without the files going through any conversion?.Just as long as Itunes doesn't make duplicate copies of all my music, I think I'm sold

The iPod, at its base, is supposed to be an MP3 player, correct? Rest assured you will have no problems playing mp3s on your shiny new iPod Classic Mp3 player.

Thats what I thought as well,but I remember that with Itunes to import your music to your library it had to converted into some different format.But like I said this I haven't used the program in years and i'm basing my comments on my hazy memory.Hopefully my memory is wrong and by the end of next week I'll have a new ipod

You don't have to use itunes. I use realplayer with my 4g ipod and no conversions are needed. I am tempted to get a classic but my 4g is still working great so I cannot justify it at the moment. I am still using the original battery in mine after three years of use. That is nice too.I listen to mine almost everyday at work.

You can use winamp 5.5 with the new Nanos and the Classics. The only thing that doesn't work with winamp, at the moment, is the Album Art. I'm sure that will be fixed very soon.

The biggest complaint that I've heard from Windows users is that iTunes moves their music to the iTunes music folder and stuffs up their carefully nested folders.

So when you first use iTunes go to preferences, click the advanced tab, and the General tab, and uncheck "Copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library".

Then under the file menu go to "add to library", navigate to the folder with your mp3's in it and "boom" all your mp3's will be shown in your iTunes library without moving them from their present locations.

If you want to use iTunes for ripping CD's to mp3 then go to preferences, click the advanced tab, and the Importing tab and select the mp3 encoder and the bit rate you require.
