The German website Connect.de has the 6 plus in the lab right now. They already stated that the sound quality is very good indeed. The distortion with MP3 is 0,017%, with WAV is 0,002%. The frequency response is flat, but they show no graphs.

I am not loving the 6 with RE400s so far. Despite being a pretty analytic guy, the combo is a bit too edgey for my taste. Need something a bit smoother, I think. It may get smoother with time too; still have not listened very much. In many ways, ip6 is more impressive than Wolfson I9300. Definitely more punch. With the right IEMs, it will be very impressive I think.

I'm having the same problem. I have iPhone 6 and few pairs of headphones:
 
- with RE400 it's edgy and not smooth at at all
- with DBA-02 much more tolerable but not too great
- with DUNU 1000 - well they are kinda niche, but they perform as expected especially in bass department
- with Shure 535 LTD - my god, this is like the perfect pairing, no hissing, sweet mids, IMHO this is the perfect pairing with Iphone 6.
 
I have never had iPhone 5/S so it's hard for me to compare. It's a great upgrade from Galaxy S4 and I even prefer it for certain thing to Fiio X3. No regret purchase.

Hmm, that can only mean that iPhone 6's dac is bright and not smooth. That's sad. I was hoping for the opposite. I should try before buying.
 
SE 535 LTD would be perfect because it's warm. If iPhone 6 sounds edgy as you described, SE 535 LTD will take away that edginess. Brighter headphones can't do that.

The iPhone 6 definitely sounds better than the 5 (non-s) with Noble Kaiser 10's.  Better instrument separation and wider sound stage.

That's what I've heard.  The sound difference probably has more to do with the new OS than the hardware.

It appears that the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus have the same Cirrus Logic 338S1201 that is on the iPhone 5S.

With my se846s the 6 plus sounds much better to me than out of the 5s. However, through the camera connection kit through my e18 the 6+ sounds better to me too when playing flac files through the onkyo player - not sure how that could be?
