Sure, thats what we do in Oz - drive around in Holdens eating meat pies with Acker-Dacker visibly flexing the glass in the doors. I DO have a couple of AC-DC tracks, and I may well be the only person on this board who can claim to have seen the band when Angus really WAS old enough to wear that school uniform, but they are a long way from my preferred choice of 'head-banging music'. I had discovered Rush, a lifelong addiction, long before Bon died - not exactly headbangers but at concert volume I'm sure they've deafened a few people over the years. Still Canada's finest export, IMO. Perhaps I will close this browser and listen to 'Time Stand Still' for the bazillionth time.

Well this is a kick, I'm Canadian and like Ozzie AC/DC an you're an Ozzie who likes Canada's Rush. Did I mention I saw Rush in 1981 in Halifax Nova Scotia when Neil Pert still had hair and looked like a refugee from the 60's acid tripping era? I must add the songs Big Money, Distant Early Warning, Subdivisions, and Roll The Bones take on quite a nostalgic flavor once you've spinned the vinyl (yes I have the original Polytel records) for the millionth time. I think we should both stop now our ages and chrome domes are starting to show. The youngin's around here might be put off by all the music discussion from us geriatric ward boppers

You dont get off that lightly - I have to make the following points -

- Phil Rudd is the only current member of the band actually born in Australia - the Young brothers emigrated from Glasgow at an early age and Bon was also a Scot. Angus is currently in his mid 50s, and less than 30% of that was spent in Oz. To be fair, they would have been lucky to survive the ABBA/disco era here - it was a terrible time for fans of live rock.

- the band was formed here but went to Europe in the 1970s and have only toured Oz a handful of times in the 3+ decades since - stark contrast to artists like Pink and Iron Maiden who have transported massive stage productions downunder for their fans - rough guess would be once every 3-4 years. The Northern Winter is our Summer, but apparently that wasn't enough to tempt AC-DC onto a plane,

Its fantastic that they have been so successful on the world stage, but I don't see them as an 'Australian band', Angus, apparently, does own a home in Sydney but I'm guessing he doesn't get to spend much time there. Rush, by contrast, are synonymous with Canada and could undoubtedly have made millions without travelling beyond North America over the course of their extensive career. I guess a lot of it is just geography and commercial reality, but that's life.

Wait a minute. I thought Neil Peart WAS a 60s acid tripping refugee? Still one of the best drummers I have ever heard.

Lol Ride the Lighting. I suddenly had images of of Lars hitting his drums with all these lamps set up around him with cymbals on top. I live in Australia too and there's a great word for people who drive Commodores with AC~DC playing really loud. Ahh well, whatever floats your boat I guess.

Bleh.

I am still a bit peeved at Apple not letting consumers purchase their own plugs to make their own cables. I don't particularly want to spend 30 dollars on an apple cable to butcher it to make it shorter. Or spend a lot more than that from smaller companies to have something it should only cost me a few bucks to make myself.

I guess they are trying to stop people customising or repairing or doing whatever to "their" stuff. I have a bit of a bee in my bonnet about Apple lately. I mean they even started putting proprietary screws in to "their" devices to stop people opening them up (O)_o. that you can't get the driver for unless you are Apple certified.

Then there's all the garbage with Samsung. I don't want to make it sound like I am bashing them btw, these are just observations that left me feeling a bit queasy about the company.

Shouldn't the world with the shortage of resources lately be heading towards more standardisation? better upgrade-ability? Mind you it would cost them a lot of money to not be able to sell their accessories afresh or to have people make their own. Ugh.

It's the DIY cable thing that is bothering me the most. Can't seem to get past it. I think it's time to head to android completely for me.  Or buy a Classic and hope it lasts forever.

That should be the theme song for Head-Fi. Sorry for your wallet and enjoy your time in hell.

It would seem to depend more on what you are listening with and to and if it didn't put you too much in dept. Musical heaven or hell.

The Apple execs need to give the above song a hard listen

I guess we have a different POV on the constant upgraditis that I see on every audio board I stumble into. I don't know any hobby which doesnt have an element of aspirational spending but this one is a doozy.

Also, I'm really hoping the new Touch has a decent DAC. I was comparing the DAC in my iPod Classic to the one in my Galaxy Nexus, and the Gnex destroys it. And it's definitely the DAC, not the amp - the Galaxy Nexus headphone jack with my RE ZEROS sounded night and day better than the iPod Classic with a Leckerton UHA-4 as the amp.

What?  I must figure out how to get some tunes on my Nexus!  Too bad it does not work with aiff files.

Lets be honest burnspbesq would you really want to carry more than 2 TB of music on you? At a certain point I'd be worried about the damn cards failing with so much info on them, including the price. I figure 256 is probably gonna be the highest I go, after that its just getting ridiculous to be honest.

Is your snark detector still under warranty?

If for instance AirPlay is really lossless then that would'nt be a problem, right? (not that there are any AirPlay compatible amp's for example, but for the sake of argument)

Stick an iPod Touch in the dock on any Peachtree integrated that has one, and you're AirPlay capable. You're limited to 44.1/16, but it works fine.
