cheers

It's not the fault of the DAC. Apple don't apply replaygain or lower the output volume when the EQ is applied. And there is no overhead.

Good or bad DAC has no bearing on the distortion. It is simply 100% a bass ackwards EQ design. Sadly. If they had one working (with customisable EQ settings), I'd not bother with Rockboxed clips and Fuzes.

Any comparisons between PC->Dac/Amp and iPad->CamerKit->Dac/Amp in terms of SQ and volume level?

The general consensus is that you keep the volume to the minimun on the DAP/ipad/ipod and use the amp to adjust the volume. This is because your external amp most likely will have a better amp than the device you are using.

Given the title of this thread " iPad to Support USB Audio Interfaces via Camera Connection Kit?",.. would your suggestion be the case with USB out also? I presumed that the Camera kit would allow one to by-pass the internal iPad AMP and DAC. I'm I wrong in this?

Thanks for pointing that out. I totally goofed. Yes, you are right, if you use a LOD for line out, you are bypassing the internal dac/amp, and you won't need to worry about volume as the only volume control will be on the external amp.

LOD = bypassing internal amp.
Camera kit = bypassing both DAC + amp.

Yes I knew that. That is why I refer the "LOD" as bypassing the internal dac and amp. I am only using the term LOD in the general sense in this case. But what you said is right. LOD as in ipod or general DAP only bypassing amp and a digital line out will bypass dac and amp. Now, is there any other correction from anyone? Please feel free to pile on.

Jalo, LOD--line lout dock, that is--has traditionally been reserved for analog line out docks, for that's all that been available. Therefore, your connotation is rather poor and best avoided.

Sorry, I couldn't help piling on.

You are welcome. You are right. I was just careless with terms.

The TTVJ Portable w/ dac also works spectacularly. Another interesting feature is that the main headphone jack continues to work, so you can use both at the same time, to allow 2 people to watch a movie on a plane, for example.

How does it compare with the PC in terms of sq? Are you getting the same volume level as with the PC?

That's great to hear as I just received my Ipad and camera kit and have the TTVJ slim amp/dac arriving later this week
