My new charger is still in the box, I'm using a PC USB port and it's been fine. It is a high current USB 3 port, 2.7A, on a Gigabyte motherboard.

Lets wait fot more conclusive results. Forums tend to make issues look bigger as all people that have them converge. If this really is an issue ill see it on all major news sites... Like always
Jude are you able to use the standard charger and cables Apple provided with the new iPad and try this test again to see if you have problems?
I'll try that later. It won't be until tomorrow morning that I know for sure, though, as this won't be getting plugged in until late tonight.
Unfortunately with this new iPad, it can only be charged when the unit is fully powered off.
I don't need to wait for more "official" sites to tell me what I'm very well aware is wrong with the charging process. I can read numbers, can't I? I have seen the same results on two different iPad 3 models with my own eyes using two different iPad chargers; so have Apple Store reps, and so have other consumers. The problem is obvious. How Apple will deal with it isn't.
Another interesting thing I don't know if I mentioned on here is that the new iPad comes with a cable that is 2/3 as thick as the iPhone cable. That makes a lot of sense, right.?.?.? I tried both and the results were the same, so it wasn't an issue, but why Apple would use a higher gauge wire or less insulation on a cable for a product that requires significantly more current than the iPhone makes no sense whatsoever. If the thinner cable is adequate then it should be used on the iPhone, too.
The IPS panel.... Excellent for off angle viewing....except with this new retina display. Off angle the color tint changes substantially. This didn't happen with the iPad 2's lower resolution display. Maybe it's a byproduct of using two light bars instead of one.
I thought Apple might actually improve its methods, product development, and QC more since Steve Jobs' passing (because without him around maybe they could push the envelope further and faster than he might have wanted) but perhaps he really was integral to the overall consumer experience, and held off on rushed product development for good reason.
