Introduction about HS2 headphone signal switcher.

Killing 4 birds with one stone.
 
All 4 are new review units. I was able to use the HS2 (first stone) so that the X3 can be burned in(if you even believe in SS burn in, I don't care. I just do it so I can tell others I have put it through X hours) and so I can burn in the new RHA's and Dunu's.
 
So how does the HS2 work?
 
The FiiO explanation is a bit hard to follow. So use these pics
 
The HS2's outputs and inputs labeled are not actually outs or in's but rather both. It's a passive device so it can do this.
 
If you want to with one input, output to two headphones(and only two at max just with HS2) you can do the config here

 

 
So what is happening right now is that the front plates two ports are all connected with headphones. And the switcher is set to 1. If you look at the back. The X3 is inputting into IN1(don't worry about it being Input or output as this is a passive device).
 
If I move the switcher, the audio disapears from the two headphones. This basically means that I can hook up as many as 4 different input sources (analog) so this means 4 different amplifiers of my choosing or sources or whatever. And have it play to two devices of my choosing whilst I can easilly switch between those 4 in this config. 
 
In the other config. I have the X3 plugged into the front plate. The back plate with the IN letterings will be outputs now. And so thus I can output or change the signal from 1 through 4. This means that I can connect a different headphone to each IN back plate plug (as long as the device inputing can drive it) and switch between headphones easilly without stopping song, plug and replug etc etc.

James, Have you considered making a device similar to the HS2 but for RCA jacks that has all of the input/output ports at the rear of the device?
 
This would be helpful for people who have one DAC and want to lead it to several amplifiers or vice-versa.

Regular RCA Component is no different from 3.5mm in terms of anything. It's just a bigger format.

If you are looking for an RCA switch, there are a number available...  Here is one from Decware:

There are a number of diagrams as to how it can be used.  Google RCA switch box and you should be able to come up with a number of much cheaper alternatives if you are looking to spend less.

I love that one, it's just so ridiculously expensive.

We'll see if our cost-conscious friends at FiiO ever come out with anything. I'll stick with the crappy one I have from RadioShack for now.
