I have had the S17 ( sent it back after break in and careful auditioning due to having the early version wonky volume control) and have the VMV P2. But never at the same time. I would say that the P2 sounds better than the S17. The only reason I moved on from the P2 to the Burson Soloist 3 GT was to get the digital volume level read out so I can level match repeatedly when comparing different DACs etc. I'm ready to sell the VMV D2R/ P2 stack but haven't listed them together yet. The P2 is way better than the Topping A90 Discrete, I was fairly disappointed in that amp and sent it back after a couple days.

Had this amp for few weeks, i don't know why this amp is not recognize to his true value: Tremendously powerful , transparent in good way , super soundstage with fidelity and bass hit with authority> details /precision / and performance is top notch up to hi-end product line of SMSL
The problem for me is the useability. Some poor design choices with the tiny buttons on the back. Don’t suppose that matters if you only intend to use it in one way.Had this amp for few weeks, i don't know why this amp is not recognize to his true value: Tremendously powerful , transparent in good way , super soundstage with fidelity and bass hit with authority> details /precision / and performance is top notch up to hi-end product line of SMSL
The rear switches are actually pretty easy to reach and switch once you get used to it the sound of the headphone amp is quite good and is ridiculously powerful. The problem for me is the useability. Most of us had different amps for different HP, and honestly, once gain was selected , i use them for all section listening without change HP, in case you change alot of HP for A_B test, yes! it's may cause problem. And like Sendler said , was very easy to reach .. slick design - simplicity : power on and volume up not blablabla just music , not warm, not sterile , absolute reference amps per se (neutral doesn't mean boring)The problem for me is the useability. In my case the rear is anything but easy to reach in a rack and the buttons are also tiny. I have multiple sources and also multiple headphones requiring gain changes. Of all the amps I own it has the least practical flexibility. Sound is fine, but I’m really just limited to one source, one headphone which does not suit me. I should never have bought it, plenty of other choices. For example my Schiit amp has a remote and you never even need to go around the back.
