I used to think this way but I've had enough issues with removable cables to think it really comes down to how well either choice is implemented. Something like the RE-400's is an incredibly poor design that has a strong possibility of pretty much just falling apart. On the flip side, the MA-750i's are very robustly built and I don't forsee having any issues with them whatsoever (but if I do they're also backed by RHA's generous 3 year warranty). The t10i's look to be just as robustly designed so their not having replaceable cables is non-issue in my view.

Idk. I use my earphones strictly on the go and I find that connections just go bad too frequently to make anything other than RC phones a worthy investment.

Usually I'd agree with you but in this case, the 3 year warranty and outstanding build quality negates your point as lets be honest you probably won't be listening to these 3 years from now but in the meantime, you can get them replaced every time they develop a fault, for free. Replacing the cables will cost you money every time.

you can kind of pick out the texture of the memory wire.  Is that the same memory wire that's in the ma750, with a different wire coating?

Yeah but warranties expire; my SE215 went almost 5 years before I destroyed them carelessly. I don't mind paying $50 every year or so for a cable for an IEM that I might not be replacing for even longer than that 5 years.

Its not the IEM I'd take for sound, but since I like to abuse them I don't want to spend more. Its possible I'll switch to VSD3/5/7, but we'll see how they hold up.

Two of my favourite sound signatures come from very budget earphones. Fischer Consonance Pro (NOT V2) and Dunu Trident. They combine a warm enveloping bass with slightly recessed but intimate mids, and sufficiently sparkly treble. I do prefer the treble of the Consonance to the Trident, which are further behind.
 
I also come from a Dunu DN-2000 which sounds fantastic. I use it on rock EQ to boost bass and treble while shifting the mids back a bit. Yet, it sometimes sounds a little too bright and detailed that it draws my focus to the earphone and not the music. It could also use a stronger bass, for a more immersive music experience. I use it with Fiio E12's sub-bass boost and that helps a bit.
 
Other earphones that I really liked are Vsonic GR07BE (slightly thin sound from an iphone, but great from Colorfly C3 + Fiio E12. Slightly hot treble on some tracks), Shure SE215 or Vsonic VSD3 on Rock EQ, and 1964 V6Stage or V3 on Rock EQ, though I found the customs rather expensive for a not-so-much improvement from good phones in the sub-$300 range.
 
Will the RHA T10i meet these needs? They are certainly not that expensive, compared to other high end universals. To compare, I did not like RHA MA750 as I found the note thickness wayyy too thick and not airy enough. Build quality was tip top though. Pre-order for the T10i is coming in my country so I would really like to know. I will go down to demo the T10i this weekend.

Completely different, actually!
 
We've put a steel wire inside a steel spring with a durable clear plastic outer in a patent pending design. The combination of wire and spring mean the hooks are incredibly flexible, but also hold their shape well. They're exceptionally comfortable and even those who struggled with the MA750 should find the T10i's ear hooks a good fit!

I can confirm the T10i has the best fit so far. And sounds excellent too
