Introducing the Aurisonics Auris
Feb 25, 2015 at 7:51 AM Post #77 of 113
I don't believe that the hype has really taken off due to the lack of official information from Aurisonics. They're still working to finish up the Rockets Kickstarter campaign and the marketing team aren't focusing on the Auris currently. Dale Lott, Aurisonics' CEO, said that once they feel comfortable with the Rockets shipments then they'll shift full focus to the Auris. But the production team is still working on the prototype and continuing to develop the headphones.

I have to say, I'm pretty happy with most of my gear but this is my current most anticipated upcoming headphone release.

I'm right behind you on this one. These are some of my most anticipated headphones alongside the Dash by Bragi. I hold higher expectations for the sound quality from Aurisonics and I hope to see them stomp the competition.

A conversation with an Aurisonics employee this week led me to believe there will be other new models coming out prior to the wireless.

Would this be a revised model of their current lineup, similar to how the ASG-1 became the ASG-1PLUS or could this be another of Dale's prototypes that aren't currently available?

He mentioned a new model, less expensive than the Rockets.

Well damn, sad I just now learned about the Own Phones. The wireless IEM market has my attention and having a pair of customs would be icing on the cake. I'll have to look for reviews when they come out later this year.

Would be great to see Dale to team up with NXP to create a NFMI based Auris to avoid the commonly known Bluetooth issues

No way, that would actually cripple their product. With Bluetooth being universally available on portable sources these days, no one would want to carry an extra device for NFMI streaming.

IME there are no issues to speak of with state-of-the-art Bluetooth / aptX audio. I use it on a daily basis, it's reliable and sounds great.

When looking at the Phonak Audeo V-series I don't think it's that large at all and I for one wouldn't mind strapping one of those to my DAP for NFMI as my experience with aptX overall hasn't been that good with regards to antenna connections and drops. Sure there'll be downsides to NFMI. Either way I hope Dale is in his lab cooking us a nice Auris concept

I've checked the Phonak Audeo V manual. Not only do you need an extra streaming device on top of your source, but it only connects via analog audio.
So the chain is actually DAP - D2A - cable - A2D - NFMI - D2A - earpiece (if I'm not mistaken).

Out of curiosity, which aptX enabled devices did you try? I've been testing several receivers in practice and only one of them exhibited recurring connection drops.
If anything, it's an issue with implementation in my book, not with BT / aptX technology itself.

That said, reception will surely be a tricky part of the Auris concept, regardless of the technology being used.
