Introducing the Audeze LCD-R!

Bird to the word - anyone try out the filter? Itchy trigger finger.
Not yet, was hoping that @GiBGUN would provide his feedback at somepoint since he provided Mitch with his LCD-R to get the filter.

Still out of the country and also have covid now so won’t be travelling home anytime soon :frowning2:
That's terrible, hope you recovery quickly and make it back home.

I created an EQ to very roughly match the graph and am really liking what I'm hearing. Waiting to hear @GiBGUN opinion though (get well soon!).
Would you mind sharing your settings? It is always fun to play around with different EQ profiles.

This is a very rough approximation I created in Roon. If you make improvements, please share it here, of course. Also, I don't want us to be using Mitch's work without compensating him, so we should all (including me), buy his curve.

TypeFreqGainQ
Peak/dip25 Hz+3.0 dB0.35
Peak/dip750 Hz-1.3 dB2.5
Peak/dip1300 Hz-1.0 dB1.5
Peak/dip3000 Hz+1.5 dB1.5

This is going to be pretty subtle. A one dB difference is approaching the limits of human hearing, especially under normal listening conditions.

Cool thanks, I'll give these a whirl at some point to see how they compare to my EQ settings that are more closely aligned with the harman curve. I tend to prefer that target line.

I've been cycling through some of my other headphones recently, but will get to the LCD-R again soon. I have been getting some ear contact from the Fazors as of recent which makes them kinda painful to wear for long periods of time. I have some of the new pads in leather that I am going to try. Hopefully they are stiffer than the new stock vegan leather pads and that they don't change the sound to drastically.

Fortunately, we don't know what Mitch is actually doing with his EQ and he posts his measurements publicly on the site, so I don't think you are stealing anything by looking at a measurement graph and just tweaking a few settings towards it. I feel like you would get a lot more from Mitch than just a couple tweaks since he has built a convolution EQ, but I don't know. Also, his measurements aren't that wildly different than other measurements of the LCD-R out there.

Well I’ve already remotely logged into my server where RoonServer is running and installed both of Mitch’s filters, so once I’ve arrived back in my apartment and have some alone time I’ll be trying it out as quickly as I possibly can! :)

I do know that Mitch is not the biggest advocate of the Harman Curve, most likely to his studio background, but others have talked about his filters on other threads for different headphones and seem extremely pleased with the results, so I am quite excited to see what it does for the mighty R’s.

Alright! After a long delay due to being DACless for a while after getting back home, I now have the Ferrum Wandla and have had a chance to try out the Mitch filters.

The Bass boost, the recession of the mids, and the cleanup of the treble really gives you a flat and balanced presentation. It still has the luxurious, 'musical' (sorry) warmth, but cleaning up the oddities in the EQ lends to a cleaner presentation plus more presence in the low end.

Might Need to give my brain longer periods of time to compare the two once I'm comfortable with volume match so my brain can adjust, but it just sounds a bit wonky to listen without the filter now.

Also, just on the LCD-R itself, It has been so nice to remind myself of some of the magic of the LCD-R. You get these quite magical, visceral moments in a lot of tracks that I haven't experienced in TOTL headphones, even if some of the big boys may have a better balance of technicalities, and ability to handle busy passages well.

Big news... since there hasn't been any other news. Schiit will soon be shipping a Unison Multi-Bit DAC daughter board for the Jotunheim. $200 DIY. I'm in.

Now for the non-news. @Audeze - what's going on with the software? Are you ditching it and just ghosting us?

All software queries should be directed at @KMann , though as LCD-R was a very low volume product, I don't foresee us investing time for it at this time. IIRC, we had mentioned to use LCD-X as the base software correction.

Hey LCD-R people - thought I'd get some opinions. I own the 2s, 3s and 4s and am curious about getting the Rs (if they ever re-release or I find them used). How do they compare to these other models that I've got?

Also, I've seen them shown with the Woo WA8 and WA-23, both of which I own and love. Anyone tried driving them off of either amp?
