Introducing the all-new HiBy DRX10K

Unfortunately at the moment yes.
I hope it comes to the Tempotec V6 because I have one of those as well. I have to say, the addition of the PEQ was already game changing, being able to boost some of the lower bass frequencies has made that player take on a warmer and more volumnous presentation. Love what you are doing, Joe Bloggs.

Wow .. This brought both my RS6 up to a completely new level .... Hard to imagine that with both of them already operating at such a terrific level there was room for yet another excellent improvement ...

Note: @Joe Bloggs Loading works fine on my RS6, but gives "Loading Failed" on my RS8 (even after multiple restarts) .... Any ideas?

You may need to reset your system plugins repo. This can be done by scrolling to the bottom of Developer Options for the RS8 on one of the later firmware versions, after you have enabled Developer Options by tapping on the Firmware version number 6 times. If you don't see a relevant entry at the bottom of Developer Options, you need to update your firmware ;)

Hahaha .. I briefly hoped that this would also be a veiled hint at a new firmware release that would have popped up .... But I actually already did the audio plugins reset ... And it did not help . (All others de-install and re-install fine btw ..)

that's odd, the other thing you can try is to enter system settings->apps->settings (the settings app) and clear its data.

Same thing .. All plugins load fine, except DRX10K ..

Try doing the settings-clear data and *then* the developer options-plugin audio data reset? When the device reboots from this, you should briefly see a blank plugin list (i.e. no available plugins to choose from).

The other thing I wonder about is, if you try (then fail) to load the DRX10K, then load another plugin (successfully), try tapping on that plugin. Does it show the expected UI for that plugin? Or possibly something else? Or possibly even that of the DRX10K itself?

No change

All plugins work, with their correct and expected UI

I (grudgingly ) ended up doing a hard reset ... And now the DRX10K plugin loads the way it should ....

The plugin is really cool, with Focal Stellia, Focal Clear, Zmf Verite Closed. I'll try it with something else, but it's a very useful plugin. Bravo Hiby.

It's fantastic with the HEKSE as well ...!!

For the default settings (+0.7,0.0,+0.4,-6.0), to you typically run those straight, or do you typically run them with some specific MSEB settings?

I noticed in your OP you noted that like MSEB note thickness can be used to balance out the plugin bass setting. What MSEB value would “zero out” the bass setting of +0.7?

this is a really interesting plug in ! And quite sensitive so would be nice to have more granular steps and a + / - button like with MSEB. Lots of play with if using MSEB and this ! This weekend going to try first adjusting the plug in then tweak MSEB - not the other way around like on my first listen. Seems to me that would be more logical way.

Hi there,

I personally run them straight, but that's because I feel my earphones to be well tuned otherwise, if even a bit on the lean side on the bass and a bit polite in the treble by default.

There is no fixed "balancing" setting--because one is a "static" change (the MSEB) while the other is a "dynamic" change (the DRX10K). I think, with the controls being the way they are right now, it may make sense to tune the MSEB (or choose earphones, or what have you) to be "just right" with songs that have good dynamics, then dial in DRX10K on songs where you feel dynamics to be a bit (or more than a bit) lacking. I find that bass is one of the first victims of a dynamics squeeze, so the bit of overall bass boost that is the side effect of the dynamic bass enhancement is usually not objectionable.

In fact, originally I could have programmed the algorithm to "purely" boost dynamics by applying an automatic variable cut to the same bass frequencies, but most people found the current approach (where there is *some* boost to the overall amount to go with the increase in dynamic variation) to be more natural.

Now available as systemwide audio plugin on most HiBy R Android players (audio settings->plugins->DRX10K)
For use with almost any music app, streaming or local.

Combining quality and innovation in audio processing rarely seen even in professional studio audio plugins and easy-as-pie intuitive operation HiBy devices and software are known for, the DRX10K is an all new dynamics adjustment plugin designed to give professional results in the hands of any consumer.

Looking just like your average bass / mids / treble tone control, this is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Instead of adjusting bass, treble etc. in quantity, you will be adjusting their dynamic content, impact and punchiness directly.

PRaT (Pace, rhythm and Timing) is no longer something to hope for and chase after with shots in the dark of source / amp / headphone pairings, but something available at the flick of a slider (usually some boosts of bass and treble dynamics in combo. Mids should usually be adjusted only in moderation.)

Possible use cases:
  • Increase bass and treble dynamics (e.g. as per defaults) to increase punchiness of bass and overall impact without coloration of regular passages.
  • Decrease bass in EQ (or e.g. Note Thickness in MSEB) and increase bass dynamics in DRX10K to replace muddy bass with punchy bass of same quantity.
  • Increase treble in EQ (or e.g. sibilance / air in MSEB) and decrease treble dynamics (to slight negative values) in DRX10K to replace sibilant / spiky treble with similar amounts of sparkly treble with sharp sudden peaks (such as sibilance) decreased.
  • Actually your imagination's the limit! Try it and see!
Disappointed that this is not a new hardware announcement? Don't be. Judicious use of this on an existing HiBy DAP will probably yield more audible improvement on most music than most $xxx worth of DAP upgrades :D

@gLer now it is :)
This looks interesting. I was already amazed with how much control and how good is the implementation of MSEB on HiBy devices and it's nice to see that this new plugin seems to be available on most HiBy R players.
