Introducing Shanling UA3 - Our first Portable USB DAC/AMP with brand new generation of AKM DAC!

Updated usb driver for windows from 2.0 to 2.1, the volume/loudness dropped quite a lot, was on 50-60ish on 2.0 and have to turn it to 70-80 ish on the new driver.. This is on 3.5mm single ended. The balanced 4.4mm have even more volume gap between the usb drivers. (40-50 vs 70)

Cant detect any sound quality difference, so went back on v2.0 now

Edit: requesting a fix if possible, when the pc shuts down/turns off while the ua3 is connected, there is a very loud pop sound. Like an amp switching sound. Concerned can damage hearing, or the equipment(headphone/iem)..
my ua3 becomes very quiet, using the pc. Where can I get the v2.0 driver?

Also the volume on UAPP is very low. Much lower than simple cheap 1v usb dongle.

V2.0 driver is available here: https://en.shanling.com/download/73

One note for this: V2.1 can provide the same maximum volume, but the volume curve was adjusted. So you might see yourself using different volume setting in the system, but the potential output should be the same.

For UAPP, I'm not personally seeing any issue with the app. Please which version of app are you running?
Check maybe the hardware volume setting screen, if all is maxed out and try to enable bit perfect mode.

really loving the sound from ua3, akm shanling soundsig no doubt. had the m6 pro ak4497 and loved the sound, ua3 has the similar signature, very smooth with warm bass, very organic and intimate vocals. though m6pro still better(from memory) clearly benefiting from much more power spec.., i'd say ua3 takes it at least 95% there. with the rest 5% is a better meaty bass, more presence in mids/vocals. clearly power related stuffs..

definitely like ua3 better than w2-131. w2 131 is also super good in techicalities, resolution, transparency. better than ua3 for sure. it is one of the best, but it is also very expensive, you can literally buy a dap and get better power/sound for the price of w2. another good one is the ru6, very unique with the organic vocals presentation..

yet for those who love the akm 'velvet' sound? and those (who like me), takes serious consideration for the price performance ratio on usb dongles? i don't think there's anything better than ua3 here, rightly priced, super great performance, very enjoyable.., and doesn't burn a hole in your pocket.

I was sent the UA3 on a request to review it, actually not normally reviewing Dongles. But guess what? The Shanling UA3 found a place in the testing equipment schedule. I use it now with everything I test, and at times it’s the best IEM, Amp,DAC synergy out of anything I own. Truly the sound is special, being smooth, complete and having just the right amount of laidback-ness. While wonderfully detailed, there is also something about the bass that leaves room for pace? It’s a form of luxurious tone which ends unique in my (almost) daily use!

Just posting this here because I had one heck of a time getting my Shanling UA3 working with my Pixel 6 and USB Audio Player PRO. Every time I started playback, the UA3 would disconnect briefly and then reconnect. (Making playback essentially impossible.)

What worked for me was to change the low power mode to "normal" using Eddict Player. (USB Control option in the Main Menu.)

I've got this driving my modified Koss KPH30i through the 4.4mm output with EQ. Sooo much fun to listen to!

Using neutron with Shanling UA3 and it I see a lot of volume headroom compared to UAPP. just curious what's going on there.

Whenever L and R volume adjustment is allowed separately from the master volume, UAPP will set them to -18dB for hearing protection. I had the same problem before clearing it up with them. Go to "Hardware Vol" option and max out the L and R volume.

My Shanling UA3 gives very unclean output which leads to headache with Redmi note 11 and also same with Dell laptop. Replaced one unit but the same issue is with new unit. Please help.
What do you mean my unclean output? I had an issue with my UA3 producing lots of static on a Raspberry Pi, placing the device in UAC 1.0 mode resolved it. Try holding down the multifunction (middle) button while plugging it in. The light will change to red confirming the mode.

Outside of that, you can try updating the firmware to the latest version and fiddling with the settings in the Eddict Player app on your android phone.
