I wonder how I would go about conducting an in-depth review of the M8T for my site and post it here on Head-Fi as well. If I must purchase this to show commitment, I could or should.

Hi can somebody share their experience for the Shanling M8T? I’m deciding to either get R8ii, DX340 & M8T to replace my current SE300. Was intending to go towards M8T however seeing the thread that there’s a few software bug

Every player has its software bugs. I’ve had the RS8 (not the R8ii), have the DX340, and the M8T. Depends on what you are looking for ultimately. The M8T is the most colored in sonic presentation. It’s also the lightest in weight. DX340 is the most powerful, at least with the stock Amp15 card. It’s a very analytical DAP. I love the screen on it.

The software experience thus far, I think I like the M8T the more though. Those are just very brief impressions.

@Shanling: Can we change tubes on our own in case of a repair? Replacement guide and parts? Thank you

We offer tube replacement in our factory, at this time we do not have any guide for user replacement.

With expected playtime of 5000 hours, we haven't have to do any replacement yet.

I certainly don't need a new dap, but I really want one. Yet I can't help feeling like it won't wow me enough to dethrone my OG M8. So now I'm also looking at the Hiby RS6 as well. Can anyone make any comparisons between the RS6 and the M8T? The RS6 sounds like a lovely dap from what I've read and watched.

RS6 is a downgrade for you. You have to look at M8T, DX340 or SP3000M for actual upgrade.

Excited new owner of the M8T! Very impressed with the sound so far.

Had a couple questions for @Shanling or anyone else who might know the answer:

1. Does anyone else notice that the sub bass quantity changes quite significantly when shifting between low gain, medium gain, and high gain modes?

2. Is there any way to turn off the colored LED light behind the volume knob?

3. On the pull-down from the top of the screen, it seems there is no way to permanently rearrange the tiles:
After I drag the "Internet", "Bluetooth", "PO", "Work Mode", "Gain", "Transistor vs. Tube", "Tube Mode" tiles into my preferred positions, there is no way to save and exit, instead the only options are ":arrow_left: Edit" button or the "Reset" button, both of which just return the tiles to their original position in the UI.

Congrats! I believe the LED for the volume is controlled in the “Display” setting and there’s a toggle for the LED on/off.

To me, the M8T isn’t a sub-bass monster — its magic’s in the balance. It feels light compared to the sub-bass in the R8ii, but once my ears settle, it’s sounds perfect. I’ve tried medium and high gain, but always come back to low — the gain modes shift the signature just enough that low feels right for me. The R8ii needs high or turbo to really knock your socks off, so not a fair A/B. Still, the M8T’s bass hits different — musical, with an organic blend into the rest of the spectrum that’s just uniquely satisfying. Loved my OG Cowon Plenue series DAPs till these — though in the car stereo setup, Cowon still shines.

1. Not something we would notice.

2. Settings - Display LED ON/Off

3. Not possible to arrange in our system.

There is scheduled update for M8T coming, but don't have detail if the public networks were fixed yet.

so, it is acknowledged that the previous attempted fix for public networks does NOT work? @Shanling
