My old hiby R4 only cost 250usd (dual es9018c and amp class A) and had pEQ (full system EQ), Shanling m3U I bought for 450usd in my country but didn't have full system EQ . I really like the sound of Shanling and You have to install a 3rd party Wavelet app to adjust, which is quite inconvenient. If you want to become a top Dap company, update the entire system's EQ. Fiio and Hiby both have it, but Shanling doesn't have it

System-wide EQ is not something our software team is currently capable of.

If I were the president of Shanling, I would spend money on the software team to add system-wide EQ to the settings, then other competitors would lose to Shanling. Don't be conservative like Nokia and you will fail. Like Hiby there is MSEB and also EQ in the settings. I hope the company listens to me, this is a suggestion from the bottom of my heart from a shanling fan

Let's say it was more in the traditional ESS way than what's our preference.



M3X/M3 Ultra were always about balance. In this case it's about battery life.



Bit different and overall higher sound quality.


I would say we did as well as we can with ESS in M3 Ultra. For us, AKM was always the preferred way.

So if I really want to experience the shanling house sound I should not get the m3 ultra ? But look at the m5 ultra instead ?

I would say M5 Ultra, M6 Ultra, H5, are the essential house sound. M3 Ultra is still fairly close to what we like to present, but its bit different.

Hi everyone. I have owned the M3X for a year and have owned the M3 Ultra for a day or so now. Key differences from my user experience so far:

I can actually play 3D audio through Amazon Music on balanced headphones without stuttering finally. That's a plus. Not sure what the change between players is that fixed the issue for me but I'm happy.

I cannot watch any video in browser without video and audio stuttering. This happens on every browser, every video site, whether downloaded or streaming. What is the fix for this? I do not have this issue in video players, just browsers. This issue is not present on the M3X with same browsers installed.

I can no longer use Netflix on this device. There is no compatible app where the M3X could use the Netflix app for Android 7.1.

Android 7 to 10 did not improve my selection of apps that will work with this device. Video apps are extremely hit and miss. Hulu, Netflix, Paramount Plus, Disney Plus do not play video at all. Tubi, Amazon Video, Adult Swim, Pluto apps work fine.

Quicker access to the device when pressing power button while sleeping is appreciated on the M3 Ultra. Noticed that improvement immediately.

Location accuracy seems to be worse than the M3X for those that are using any kind of GPS with the device. I have also had apps fail trying to access location services.

Between what seems to be a change in tactile touch screen and keyboard from Android 7 to 10, it is 100x times harder to type with accuracy on the M3 Ultra. I get constant missed inputs and incorrect inputs when attempting to type on this device. I feel I have to press areas multiple times and harder than expected to work.

Screen colors and images pop on the M3 Ultra. Looks to be an improvement over the M3X, but the screen size and DPI limits on both devices usable video apps.

Sound quality has definitely improved being a warmer tone and better sound stage. Audio settings are no longer part of the quick launch bar. I played with no EQ settings when playing music, just turned on Dual DAC and High Gain for more aggressive music.

Build quality feels heavier and more solid on the M3 Ultra. The unibody metal casing more than likely leads to worse GPS performance.

Moving between screens feels snappier with the new processor and Android version.

Android Auto doesn't seem to work on either device. I mention this because at one point Android Auto worked on the M3X. I believe this is due to a change in Google requirements for the app.

My biggest complaints are the stuttering of audio/video in browser and typing on the M3 Ultra. These issues combined are possible deal breakers for me. I am hoping a change to a different keyboard helps with the input issue, and a fix for stuttering audio in browser is provided.

Between the two devices, if only concerned about audio apps and audio quality, the M3 Ultra is the clear better performer. If looking to use the devices as full portable media players (including streaming video), the M3X is cheaper and offers better functionality currently for video.

It works fine in other scenarios like for YouTube, and using Amazon when the screen is locked. It is a peculiar bug, that I hoped the updates would fix, but they never have.

One thing to note is that the M3X cannot run the latest version of Amazon Music due to Android 7, so comparisons may not be as useful.

I imagine it is an app related issue not a bug.

On my M3 Ultra Apple Music works fine with the play control buttons when the screen is on but they don’t work at all when the screen is off.

I gave up on Tidal but it worked fine in both scenarios.

The M6 line always had a more advanced DAC and Amplifiers than M3, as M3 even in Ultra was still focused more on size and battery life.

If you can get around the older system in M6 21, it's the better sounding of the two.
