If i will use mostly headphones between 16-150 Ohms, should i go for the EH1 instead?
Or will the sound still be a lot better (dynamic, smoother, fuller, details) on the EH2?
For my incoming Meze 105 AER and Meze 99 classics mostly.

Speaking for myself, I feel like you need to hear an R2R DAC for yourself. No one can be told what the Matrix is if they prefer tubes or not, for example. You either immediately hear it and know you prefer it (R2R in the case of DACs), or you prefer the positive qualities of D-S sound. I mean, there are a ton of high end chip DACs that compete with R2R so I’m not making any absolutist points, but most of the endgame DACs that are grabbing attention by reviewers and hobbyists (for a good reason imho) these days are R2R.

There are two different things in the mix.

For the power itself, if you are using full-size headphones, the EH2 amplifier would be the better match, even if they don't need the full power. And it leaves you space for any potential upgrade on the headphones in the future.

Only if you are mainly focused on IEMs, then the EH1 might be better match (Or even UA6 with its more precise volume control).

Other thing is R2R DAC, it really makes the EH2 sound very different from EH1 and as other said, the R2R sound has its fans and haters.

To Shanling: the EH2 has interesting features that the more expensive R2R dacs are often missing. However, this product is described as a 24bit dac. How could this be the case when it's using just 0.1% resistors? Solely based on this spec, the EH2 will not be interesting enough for many (audiophiles and the like), while it may not be affordable enough for the ones that don't seem to care about specs.
Wouldn't it be a good idea to launch a 'Shanling EH2 Precision' next to this EH2, with 0,001% (at least 0,01%) precision resistors? And perhaps have some of the technique in it that f.e. Holo Audio is using (if not already so)?
Add another $50 - $100 to the consumer price and you have a winner for the time ahead. R2R is relatively new to most of the public; if you want a future share in the market for such dacs, I guess now is the time to have the crowd buy your product and position yourselves. The EH2 in this form is imo not interesting enough; perhaps a future model might be, but launching a wannebee product at a later stage and you can join the back of the queue. Better position yourself now.

Shanling, I might be asking something stupid, but what are the two RCA analog output ports (red and white) useful for if this DAC-amp combo? To bypass the amp part and use it as a pure DAC? Sorry for beginner question.
Yes, it's for use as pure DAC or DAC + Pre-amp. Useful if you want to run it into external integrated amp, power amp, active speakers, etc.

Will the tone controls also impact the line/pre outs or are they just for the headphone amp stage?

It affects all outputs

So no precision resistors in the planning?
There are hunderd other parts which make the sound. I'm ordering the EH1. Good enough for me.
But make no mistake and just trust in Shanling.
Already heard one guy... prefering EH1 over FiiO K9. :L3000:

Yup, true. But I wasn't talking about the sound of an EH2, likely that's fine. But then, so many of these products sound just fine.
Trust? I trust in technique. You cannot have a 24bit dac with 0.1% resistors. And hey come on, more than 300 euros and you don't even use precision resistors??? Isn't it stingy?
I like the options of this device and Shanling has a good reputation. But who's gonna buy a BMW with an engine of a Deux Chevaux?

Fair point but maybe we just wait for the first reviews of this product.
When we have such a positive response from EH1, I do believe in them!
