Introducing ONIX Overture XM5 - First Portable Player from ONIX

You know the funny thing about the crappy UI is that I've started doing full libary shuffle and have refound favourite songs that I would have otherwise forgotten to the passage of time.

I am still happy with simplicity of non-android devices for music. Works and boots up fast, screen is smaller because it doesn't need to be bigger unless people browse websites, books or game on daps. Ergonomy is the best for pocketable use and bonus on desktop use. Onix can just work on keeping everything the same just improve the sound indefinitely in future versions (not that currently it is bad but can be always better ofcourse). Maybe replacable modules like the caying n6III but that will increase the size which I don't like on n6III

Although my WM1Z has what I deem to be a higher level of SQ, the XM5 is close to the perfect dap for me:
Non-Android, booting straight up (Sony takes ages for its compulsory database check), USB-C, drop down menu, buttons on the face, volume and outputs on the bottom. Ideal ergonomics. For both desktop and pocket use, the outputs on the bottom make so much sense. I think the DX180 also has outputs on the bottom, maybe a new trend?

My wishlist would be:
Fast charge, back button on the lower part of the screen.

the ibasso, cayin and few others are putting the volume on the opposite side of the outputs which makes a bit harder to turn volume while in pocket - here in xm5 the volume and cables are basically sticking at the pocket exit so very convinient.

One of the buttons is programmable mine is set to screen on/off not sure if there is a back function also

I just checked quickly and it has 'return to main menu', so perhaps not an actual back/previous screen function (I haven't tried). I had opted for that to be assigned to the screen option as I had thought that it may reduce any wear on the volume dial.
It's not a biggie, i just find with my smaller hands it's a bit of a stretch. Coming from years of Sony Walkmans I'm used to it being bottom left corner (I'm a lefty).

You can run it in HP out and lover the volume if it seems the balanced line-out is too hot for the amp.

XM5 does not have dedicated line-out circuit, line-out mode is just software setting. Only difference between LO and HP mode is if the volume is locked at line-out voltage or not.

does the xm5 come with a screen protector already on it? The glass seems kinda raised, but the manual says 1 screen protector included and that was in the box separately.

XM5 comes with screen protector applied, there is extra one in box.

It has been like this in our system since 2018, so far we got no improvement on it from our software team.
