Thanks Dan for the work you've done on the headphones. I've been using your products since the Aeon Flow, but the problems with the ear pads, which I couldn't buy in my country, led me to the Ethers. I started with the classic, then the C, now the Flow 1.1. Will you have an update for the Ethers with a closed back? Thanks
Thank you Dan, I just received my Noire X today, finally upgrading from my beloved black Alpha Primes. I can't believe they were my daily driver for 10 years and loved every minute of it. The Noire X has blown me away. They sound incredible, and I love the comfort. I also think it's a testament in how good the Alpha Primes still sound alongside the NX. Bravo to you and your team with over a decade of innovation.
Noire X is a tricky one again (like E3) to get full synergy with to release all it has to offer IMO...I don't feel I've had more than 70% of all it offers if you can quantify the ceiling it's now at with my gear....anyone cracked a fantastic DAC/amp combo ?
I'm hoping my Cayin C9 that I don't have just now goes well with it...
I'll be alternating the MUS-IC BD34301EKV DAC and iFi's Burr Brown DAC for extraction with various amps upstream.
Phatlab Sassy GT tube hybrid was maxxed out and straining as was Gremlin with PSvane tubes - though not as absolute limit as Sassy....
Will give Hugo 2 a go with it, it did not go well with E3 to my ears....I'm thinking full-bodied/euphonic tube hybrid with a stack of headroom in class A with a more clinical DAC like MUS-IC BD34301EKV chip is the way to go for electronic music anyway....add more flesh/body to the low and mids while not accenting the treble zone or losing imaging clarity.
I've owned both...with planars to dynamics its hard to get a baseline...very much an apples to oranges comparison...you get the better speed/imaging/dynamics overall balance with Noire X and then the fuller euphonic body and bass dynamics of D9200...very good can and one of better dynamics i've heard...better than all the older Denons that preceded it IMO and the Fostex dynamics also...I was surprised how crappy most of them sounded to be honest..especially the fostex iterations vs D9200...found it better than Lawton modded D7k also.
Thanks. So the NX is winning a bit over the Denon, when its about the sound, and for sure when we talk about the comfort. Or not? I am not sure, but i think the NX has more space for ears. How difficult is it, to change the pads on the NX?
You have owned. Can i ask what replaced them?

NoireX winning on most fronts except innate body/fullness and macrodynamic heft which is just inherent to most bass-slanted dynamic tech.
The Denon is a character tuning vs towards balance.

Love the Schiit Bifrost 2/64 with a Sparkos Gemini (7308, Amperex Bugle Boy 6DJ8, GE 5670 via adapter, Ray Select 12AU7). About 40% on the volume at loud listening levels. Fosi DS2 will power them for really portable or Fiio Q15, if you don't mind the size. A bunch of the transportable Xduoo devices would work (or PB5 Osprey, C9), too - but I don't have any of those for a firsthand evaluation.

I have stated there that SINAD amps measurements results taken for 32 ohms for headphones can be very misleading when assessing how well they could drive 13 ohms headphones. As expected, some ASR fundamentalists went after me. But what really mattered was that Dan Clark himself chimed in and provided thorough analysis what to look for in the amps when pairing them with low impedance headphones (Noire and NX).
