My replacement pair from Sweetwater is better than my first but still has the same issue, just less often.

If the auto-pause music when headphones are taken off is enabled, often times the touch controls don't respond well or at all.

Really. Freaking. Annoying.

Factory resets do nothing.

got my momentum 4 last november. sounds really good and comfort, didn't have any issue (with aptx on windows 11 and aac on iphone/ipad) since i started using a usb dongle equiped with qcc 3056 and can do aptx-adaptive at 24bit/96khz. i don't know which end to blame the dongle or the momentum 4 or the aptx-adaptive. the problem that i get is that the momentum starts turning it off during playback or the touches stop responding (no feedback sound and the player also not responding) and sometimes i moved the momentum a little bit over my head then it refuses to play any sound only a force reboot helps (holding the button until a red light shows up). it already has the latest firmware. however all these problems disappear when i just using the normal aptx or the aac codec.

picked up a pair of the momentum 4's for $277 on amazon. Absolutely love them. First pair of bluetooth anc headphones that needed absolutely no eq out of the box and yet sounds easily better than the bose 45, bose 700, 1000xm4 and xm5 eq'd. I favor the momentum 4's tuning over the airpods max as well. Sennheiser has done a fantastic job with the momentum 4.

Thank you! They're obviously a wireless first device but it is also fun to try with a USB-C cable right to your streaming source (assuming your cable is long enough haha).

Welcome to the #M4WClub!

I also just a pickup a pair of momentum 4. Regarding sound quality. I'm really impress. Highs: clean, sharp and acute. The Momentum 4 Wireless highs are impressive with great decay and zero distortion. Add a wide dynamic range, no sibilants and you end up with a render nothing short of amazing for a Bluetooth headphone. Definitely the selling point of this model. Every other aspect of the headphone are also great except for the ANC.

There are some concern I would like to ask Sennheiser's representative. (noted I'm on the latest software version)

1. The ANC is quite ineffective in blocking out external noise compared to other in the price range. (AirPods Pro Max 9/10, Sony xm4 9/10, Momentum4 5/10). That's quite a difference and I would love to know whether there is any plan to improve the ANC through software update. It's quite a downfall of this headphone and I'm so sad that's the case. I love every other aspect of the headphone.
2. The wind noise reduction setting seem to be completely broken. Turning on Max completely render the ANC useless. Can you elaborate more on this feature.

Thanks for the question and for your purchase-- much appreciated!

ANC is rarely a "one size fits all" feature, so we've added a few features that we should check on first.

1) Blocking external sound is the job of the headphone itself (earpads and the driver enclosure aka earcup). Cancelling noise is the job of the ANC circuit - it monitors the noise in the earcup and the outside world, creates a duplicate of the noise signal, then inverts the phase so that physics can do its work and cancel out the low-frequency droning sounds you hear in an airplane cabin, the droning of commercial A/C systems at work, road noise on public transport, etc. ANC from pretty much any brand will not eliminate the sound of someone talking as that all happens too fast for phase manipulation to work well.

2) based on the above, the first thing to check is that you have a good seal and that you've become comfortable with the controls in the Smart Control App. In the app, you can select Adaptive ANC (automatic) and manual ANC. From the manual mode, you can dial in the amount of ambient sound you want. Make sure you have this slider at maximum ANC. If you choose Adaptive mode, you can activate transparent mode with a tap of the right earcup, 2x quickly. You can also use a pinch gesture in manual mode to dial in a custom amount of ambient noise (pinch closed for more ANC, pinch open to get more ambiance).

3) make sure your headphone is coupled well with your head. Both passive AND active noise cancellation require a great seal to do their job well.

4) Wind Noise Reduction is not customizable other than Off/Auto/Max - your experience with it will vary depending on point #2, and just how much wind noise there is. You cannot eliminate wind noise on a headphone that has integrated microphones built into the cup (which are required for voice calls), but you can try and reduce it with these modes.
