Its a struggle, but I know am going to end up with both lol. Really just trying to find a way to get the Paw for a bit cheaper. Maybe we could do a group buy, someone contact those overpricing AK wanabes at Lotoo

Invite you all to upgrade your Lotoo Paw Gold firmware to the latest version:http://www.lotoo.cn/page/default_en.asp?pageID=80

So I'm already on the Japanese firmware 5.0.3.5, which works perfectly fine. Is the English version 5.0.1.5 the same or newer? Is there a list of changes this firmware makes to the Paw Gold?

The english version is newer i think. I use it and works fine.New are the bug fixes been told and some improvements but i couldn't see,but the UI is faster and sound is more open/spacious on my unit.
Great battery life and it gets a bit warm transferring files over USB 3.0 but is fast :)
But is a great DAP.

I just tried rolling the same opamps that the paw gold uses for amp + buffer, the OPA1642 and LME49600 which I rolled both into my P4 amp to try and get an idea of what Paw might sound like lol. I think I understand why some people said the Paw is bright. I am using the CKR10, which is not very bright, but this opamp combo definitely changes that to a brighter nature, it highlights detail like crazy, but CKR10 is actually balanced with this combo. Bass is actually tighter for the CKR10 with this combo, so it fixes the CKR10 freq balance of treble and bass to make it balanced. Changing to a very balanced iem, the CKR9LTD, which has more treble and less bass than the CKR10, suddenly this opamp combo was very noticeably bright, but somehow not annoying bright, just like an extra hi def sound kind of bright. I'm not a fan of it really, it does seem a bit cold and sterile, my music does seem to lose some of its emotion imo, this doesn't happen for me with the ZX1, which is also a bright dap, vocals and treble on ZX1 remain smoother even though they are bright, but this opamp combo is very hard edged/hi def and bright, not sibilant.

Now I know this isn't exactly completely representative of what the Paw will sound like, but I feel using the same amp+buff in a transparent amp like P4 will reveal the general signature of the Paw, using a neutral source like DX90 line out. So this silly experiment is making me lean towards buying a ZX2 first, hmm.

Ckr10 is truly a great deal for what its selling for.

Yep, I really recommend getting the CKR9LTD if your a fan of CKR10. The 9LTD is like a balanced sounding CKR10 on steroids, bigger sound stage, separation, depth, air, etc. And you can get it for so cheap, usd $200, from here:

I paid nearly $100 more from Japan using Tenso

The 9LTD pairs excellently with neutral or warm daps, sounds phenomenal straight out of both the ZX1 and DX90, It might go well with your M.
