Introducing hip dac 3! The Legacy Continues!
Dec 18, 2023 at 2:06 PM Post #106 of 215
Works great, sounds great! I have the problem that when connected to my iPhone the sound randomly stops. Soms after 1 minute, soms after 2 hours. Sometimes only once and sometimes 5 times in 10 minutes. Power off and on resolves the problem (temporarily).
I have exactly the same problem with my Fiio Q3 MQA. That’s the reason I bought the hip dac 3… So problem must be my iPhone 14 Pro Max but Apple is giving me a hard time🙁 I restored my iPhone and set it up as a new device with Apple music as the only app. Still same problem. Took me half a hour to explain the helpdesk what a DAC is and why I need one…
And then keep wining if the devices have the label “made for iPhone” printed on the box. If I say no they probably will state that the device is incompatible 😔
It might be a long shot on my end (I use my devices with the Apple adapter) I have an iPhone 11 and have no issues with my devices.

I would also reach out to support and report this issue as they may have a quick answer, and others will benefit from it being reported, especially if it becomes a larger issue.

I am sorry for your issue, here is where you can report it...

And also the adapter I use...

Hi,
You use the lightning to hdmi adapter to connect your hip-dac 3? 🤔

Aahh ok…😊
So you use the adapter and connect it to the hip-dac 3 with a usb-a to usb-c cable?
Why not with the supplied usb-c to lightning cable?

If I wasn't clear I don't have the hip-Dac 3 specifically, but I have found over the years that this has given me fewer issues with whatever I connect.

Folks way more knowledgeable than I can probably chime in but I have heard of Power issues, things like of that nature that have caused issues, usually solved by this adapter so I have sort of just always used it.

I would still report it as it may even be a cable issue. Just sharing my usage cases.

Cheers!!

I reported it.
There is a possibility that with the camera adaptor there is no problem. The adaptor costs 15,- euro. With the adaptor it will be bulkier but if it helps why not. It is worth the try..’thanks.

Thank you! Could you by chance list some headphones you have used so other readers would know?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers!!
I initially bought it to power some S12pro IEMs which is a very nice combo. Using UAPP and my s20 5g playing lossless files. However once I tried my HD650/HD600/JAR650 I was pleasantly surprised even out the SE. Out the 4.4 it's even better, I don't use any gain or iem match setting. Real good with 300 ohm Senns ! Still need to try focal elex and ZmF Atticus.

Yes, that is a disadvantage in its, size. I would wait until support gets with you about it. But as a long-time Apple user, it can solve some issues.

Let us know how you make out.

Cheers!!

iPhone XR and now iPhone 13 - no problems with Hip Dac1 or 2. Always using iFi supplied cable.

Before the weekend I should have Hip Dac3. I plan to use USB-C to lightning cable (iFi or third party).

I will report, if I come across any issues.

With iPhone 12 Pro Max no problems with Fiio Q11 and Q3 MQA.
With iPhone 14 Pro Max problems wit Fiio Q3 MQA and hip-dac 3.
English is not my native language, it’s hard to express myself, something happens when the sound stops but I don’t know how to write it down. I need someone who is about 50 years old because young people probably don’t know what I mean 😂
When the sound stops I hear some “noise”/sound.
When back in the 90’s most phones were not shielded. When you lay your phone next to a radio and someone calls you than a second before the phone rings you hear some noise in the sound of the radio.
Does this make sense to anyone? 😂🙈

You will use your hip-dac 3 with your iPhone?
Although not advertised the hip dac 3 comes with a usb-c to lightning cable.

My mistake. Corrected now.

Yes USB-C to lightning cable. I have a bunch of them, so I will use the one I like best.

Coming February, I am switching to iPhone 15. From then on, it will be USB-C to USB-C :L3000:

Makes complete sense to me, I know what you mean!

Back in the day and even now if I was recording anything in my home studio "No Phones Allowed" :xf_wink: Anything can interfere with anything at any given time!

Good luck!

Cheers!!
