They did in my case.

these look so beautiful. Am I right in thinking they aren't really suited to rock, electronica and rap though?

if someone who owns these could give something of those genres a listen I would muchly appreciate it

Last I heard the w1000x I thought they were good, but not enough for me to buy.

Now I am in the mood to buy another headphone and the w1000x appears once again on the list.

Anyway, this question is aimed against people who have owned/tested both the w1000x and the T1. Which is "technically" superior. The key points I am looking for are, sound stage, and detail retrevial/resolution.

I like the W1000X, but the T1 is the superior headphone in ever conceivable way, IMO. The W1000X does have the advantage of being sealed, having pretty wood, and costing only 50-60% of what a T1 costs. But sonically the T1 betters the W1000X across the board, IMHO. That said, that doesn't make the W1000X a bad headphone AT ALL - I think it's terrific and have been using it exclusively in my bedside rig since I got it.

But if you can afford the T1, it's better, *unless* you favor a sound with a pronounced upper-mid/lower treble "presence region" - the T1 is quite neutral - the W1000X is not as neutral, but does sound very good.

Thanks for the impressions skylab, I spent about 30 minutes listening to the w1000x in singapore, as I said, I was impressed, but not more impressed then say the hd650 and mspro that I own (I do think I prefer it to my dt880).

Mind you the difference could have been due to different source and amplification.

But yes, I am after I guess you would say the next "tier" probably a t1 or hd800 coming my way then.

skylab..what type of music would you say it's suited to?
Do you have any experience comparing to a Denon model too?

I like the W1000X with a wide variety of rock and jazz, which is mostly what I listen to.

As for the D7000 v W1000X, the main differences are the D7000 has a little more bass and a less forward midrange, and is slightly more neutral overall. Both are great, but quite different sounding.

Oh yeah. It's not a "mellow" headphone

when I had a chance to try them out briefly, the bass was what impressed me the most. not a basshead myself and Denon's were not my cup of tea but the w1000x had the perfect amount of slam and punch for my taste..not overpowering or at the expense of other frequencies (mids/ lower mids).
