I was kidding. I believe the new stepping run a bit cooler which can enable a higher overclock.

ohh ok.

personally i dont see a point in going quad core right now unless you do a ton of multitasking/encoding. there arent any games out right now besides sup com that will make any good use of it. once crysis and UT3 come out, THEN i'd seriously consider it. by that time, quads should be pretty damn cheap indeed. for now, my OC'ed e6600 is just fine.

Yeah I am subscribing to that school of thought myself. Plus I do not have the funds to throw at a new cpu. If anything I would get an E6750 and put the hammer to it.

I've got a XP 2400+ sitting in the other room that you can put the hammer to. Literally!

Supply and Demand maybe

or price-gouging perhaps

you can still grab a Q6600 from other retailers for less than $310 shipped, and even a near-guaranteed G0 Q6600 from ncix/ncixus, so why go newegg? I've always been a dedicated newegg customer, partly due to their excellent shipping/order processing, but I'm not so sure anymore

Since newegg went IPO they're not the same. Well, they did not always have the lowest price, but now just another buncha corporate greed-mongers.

So the reports are coming in that the Q6600 is a wicked overclocker and it runs cool. The E6750 seems to be doing pretty good too.

wicked indeed, the "good" batches of G0 stepping Q6600s overclock to 3.6GHz stable, on AIR

These Quads are very nice, I've OC'd mine to 3.0 and it's been running Prime for 26 hrs now, rock solid. I have done nothing in the bios except increasing FSB to 335, everything else on auto

CoreTemp shows reading in the region of mid 60s to high 60s, this is on air
