Just playing with them now. Currently using the gold treble filter and pink bass filter. I like that gold treble filter. What are you using?
Pop stuff is red filter/ green tip. Orchestral/ classic vocal stuff are purple filter/ gold tip

We've both come to the same conclusion so far then. Good to know. My purple is pink though. Maybe an early batch or something.
Mine too, I'm just calling them purple to keep down the confusion

Red/ red is pretty spicy if you have a darker source. Makes the Mojo pop like it's on fire.

I had quite the similar experience while i had the opportunity to hear it for a couple of minutes. Amazing amount of detail and a huge soundstage, but simply no punch.
Might be great or even one of the best for some genres, but not for me.

The HD820 might be a different deal. As far as i heard they managed to combine the strengths of the HD800 with the benefits of a closed back headphone, but that price tag is just way out of my league.
I know this continues an OT discussion but like all of you above I also dismissed the HD800 for many years for that exact reason - lack of punch. Until one day I actually learned how to mod it (SDR, very easy) and hear it in my system with an R2R dac and powerful amp, and realised just how insanely powerful and versatile this headphone is. It’s not considered one of the greatest of all time - still today - for no reason. Will it ever reach the bass heft of the Zenith (or Aten)? Of course not, but the quality across the board far surpasses what the IMRs and most IEMs can achieve. Give it a touch of EQ with SonarWorks and you’ll be pleasantly surprised how hard the bass can hit. Again, not as hard as a specialist basshead IEM like an IMR, but far more natural and lifelike. Just my 0.02 and not trying to take anything away from what the Aten does best (and even better than the HD800).

I've never dismissed the HD800, I've owned them several few times over the years and I used it with some of the best amplifiers you can use on them. Lebens CS 300s, WA2, WA22, Vioelectric, Icon Audio, lehmens etc etc. The dac I mainly used is the super musical April Eximus DP1 and a few chords and AK based stuff. I did the 2 main mods on the standard hd800 too. It's a fantastic headphone if you like it's sound signature. I'm more of a speaker guy though so I'm not really into sterile super analytical stuff.

I completely get that. Oddly ‘sterile’ and ‘super analytical’ is how I perceived the HD800 for years, until I actually spent some proper time with them, learned how receptive they are to EQ, and realised they were neither. /OT

Yeah that's cool mate. I'm glad you like them. I wish I did. I spent a lot of money on amps for them but never managed to get the enjoyment you do unfortunately for me.

Hi!!

Finally my R2 arrived in the desert! Woohooo - I will take them with me on a weeks vacation and report back - but so far - first few minutes, very early impressions: I love them. They are right on my alley with the black/black so far. Bit of hot treble on some recordings - let's see if that mellows otherwise I play with the filters....really happy I jumped on these!!

Lovely cable as well and the whole package is so much better now.

Welp pulled the trigger and mine ship tomorrow! Excited for these they look great, actually sold my U12t's to make this purchase happen. #worthit
Damn, selling one of the top BA IEM's to purchase the R2. Interesting decision. I would love to read a short comparison between the two, as soon as you got some listening time with the R2 ^^

The red/ green/ gold tips (descending order of treble/ upper treble) have a frequency contour that's less prone to hotness in the cymbals/ strings regions. You might try the red first and see if that helps.

I've been bouncing back and forth between the zeneths and u12ts for some time and in my opinion I really think the value of the products Bob is putting out and the customer service I've received made it a easier decision to make
