i guess what ken has done is to provide a fairly 'affordable' (comparitively) solution to have the two OIMPS essentially taking front seat in the processing, and passing them off with the lower value teflons to provide a nice trade off sonically, where you will get the best of both worlds, a unique sound somewhere between solely v-cap and somewhere between solely teflon based, it will be IMHO a fairly rich textured environment with solid resolving tonal complexities, the way ken has configured them.

*** i am lead to believe teflon vcaps do not sound at all like their burnt in selves till 600+hrs, in fact it is reported that not only do they not sound there best until massive ammounts of burn in, but that they overtly sound BAD and quite loathsome until such time, a quirk of the cap.***

have to wait and see.

Quaddy,

Thats exactly what I was doing by adding the lower value Teflon cap to the larger value OIMP cap in parallel, I like to think if it as the poor mans Teflon Vcap version. If you want to call that "poor"? I dont know. The whole thing was Vinnie's idea after he saw what I was doing with the OIMP Vcaps.

I the enclosure I am using is very small for fitting the 4 caps in the case and as it turns out Chris at VHaudio no longer makes the smaller Teflon caps that the LE-PVcap dock uses. I bought the last hand full from him to make this mod work because the new versions of the Teflon caps are too large a diameter and will not fit in the case so even if I wanted to make more of this item I can not.

This only leave us with the final stop in all this, the large Teflon cap.

oh no talk about expensive. I think i will make one to have for this years CanJam for my table. Vinnie and I are sharing a table I think this time.

I shudder to think what would happen. Then heaven forbid should Vinnie decide to enter the portable arena. Bring some of that SLA lovin' to the portable side. Give the LisaIII, LaRocco PR2 mk.2, and iQube a run for the money.

That SE vCap is an amazing little device. I can't afford to live that good. I so wish I could travel to CanJam and meet the two of you and get an earful of a real Teflon vCap dock. I am saving for another vCap dock this holiday season, but thank you so much for the hat. Its my favorite hat ever (possibly the only baseball cap I've ever looked good in). I am planning to present the ALO and RWA iMod goods at the upcoming NC mini meet, promise I will do my best to show off what you and Vinnie have brought to the table.

Jena Labs recabled r-10's....I wonder how much i can get for my soul...

Dec 11, 2007 at 10:49 AM Post #248 of 328
ESPECIALLY not enough for the Jena labs recabled version of the r-10. Holy jeebus! I've been meaning to recable my cd3k's for awhile now... but I can only imagine how much the recabling would be. *does his homework...* 1500 for the recabling job. Huh. I thought it'd be a lot more. COOL! AND i found this...
"The Sony CD-3000
We do not rewire other headphone systems, only the R10. However, the Sony CD-3000 headphone uses the same transducer as the R10, but with a different ear-cup cup material and different overall form-factor. Although we have not yet had the opportunity to work on this model, we welcome the opportunity to inspect a pair and evaluate them for suitably of a harness upgrade. Should you own a pair of them and wish to have us check them out, please contact us at <mail@jenalabs.com> Please note: We are looking for a pair of CD-3000 headphones for our own use....If you are aware of any for sale, we would appreciate a referral to the seller."

I don't want to sell mine, but I would gladly offer them up as a guinea pig set.

I have read through this tread quickly and now considering getting the imod dock. I am expecting my 5.5G imod and the ALO SCD Au/Ag Series Line Out Dock. Now I have read through this tread and considering getting the dock station so I can use my imod with the home system. I am deciding between the Auricaps fidelity dock and portable v cap dock. So far I only know that one have the charger and the other doesn't. What about sound quality?

as i am yet to receive my teflon v-cap dock from ken, i cannot comment on the sound differences between the auricap wooden and portable v-cap, standard or special edition.

what i am lead to believe is that v-caps, are second only to audio note caps and provide the very best at what they do, if i had to guess which would sound better, my answer would be the special edition v-cap --> standard v-cap and then thirdly the auricap fidelity you mention

it is very handy that the fidelity charges also, but this can be done also with any of the v-cap docks. alo or members of this board can make you a chargeable-hybrid imod dock cable. i for example have ordered one from stevenkelby which will charge N play via usb mini, which i can connect to a usb female port wall wart

that way cou can be flexibe in having your dock, plugged in at home, and removed for portable on the go usage.

I hope you have your soon and we can hear your comment on that. I am also leaning toward the V-Cap just because what I read. Unfortunately i have not experience any of them. I guess that I will wait and see someone post it on here.
I am a newbie here. If I were to get the V-cap dock and the chargeable-hybrid imod dock cable then do I need to get the jumbo cryo dock? Imod + V-cap dock + Hornet, how to connect!!!

OK,

if you were to buy the standard edition v-cap portable dock;
you would need a dock cable (jumbo cryo dock, as you mentioned) to connect from dock in port into your imod.

then you would connect a standard mini to min cable from v-cap out port into your hornet amp

as the v-cap already contains the capacitors for the audio path, it would just be a standard made for ipod dock cable / not imod cable (without black gates in)

same applies for if you wanted the cable to charge, still a standard ipod dock cable not imod cable but you would request a charging portion to the cable. (usb mini or DC in)

connection flow diagram without charging-hybrid cable:

P-VCAP DOCK in<--3.5mmIPOD DOCK CABLE(eg. jumbo cryo dock)|<--iMod
P-VCAP DOCK out-->3.5mmMini2Mini3.5mm-->HornetAmp-->headphones

you are just replacing the cable if you want a charging cable from the jumbo cryo dock for example, to a custom charge/dock cable. - best to get a chargeable one anyway, as that can be used normally or as play n charge, at least that way you have all your options open.

i know its confusing the way i have laid it out, sry!

Hi, Quaddy: Thanks so much, I got it now. I will search for the hybrid then.
I guess I have to read up on the tread, as I just finished with the EFN DIY V-cap. That is awesome. You got a nice system going yourself

See ya.

When I burned in my iMod and portable v-Cap, I used this set up:
iMod > apple dock > jumbo cryo mini from dock line out > p-vcap > Rca to Lisa III. Worked like a charm since I could charge the iMod in the apple dock while it was playing and burning in. Also nice since I already had the cables and the dock, didn't have to incur any additional expense.

good thinking batman, that would work for the standard v-cap for sure.

unfortunately, reason i had to order a bespoke intergreated dock/charger is as i going to be receiving the special edition v-cap, which has the hardwired dock cable!!
