I'm not happy with my setup...

You really need to get a pair of Grado's around your head

The HD650 is a boring headphone to me too - regardless of the setup. It does many things well - but...

Maybe a GS-1000

or - come to think of it not too many lower priced phones that are exciting or fast.

They do electronic/hip hop fine.

If not you could always get a cheap, bass heavy headphone for that music, like the K240S.

you call k240s bass heavy? lol

I found a Beyer dealer fairly close so I might be able to audition some Beyers. Auditioning Grados and other cans mentioned could be a problem though. I might also audition some SA5000's, although expensive I wanna know what they sound like. If I get around to auditioning some cans, I'll post my thoughts on them.

By all means, audition everything you can get your hands on, it is well worth it considering the cost

If nothing else, it will at least give you some additional points of reference, and sometimes even a good deal of enjoyment.

Meier-Beyer, baby! It's a VERY synergistic combo.

I'm also one of those people that just didn't find the HD650 to be very interesting to listen to. I wanted to like it, but I didn't. Like all headphones, it just doesn't appeal to everyone.

Go for the DT990's.

Anyway, i think you shouldn't just stop on the HD650( so far, Sennhiser is not very outstanding at all)

With regards to electronic music I think it depends on what you are looking for in that genre and what type of electronic music you're listening to. I actually think that electronic music is the type of music I prefer the most on my Grados. I want a clean and fast sound, not the bass thumping kind of sound.

Made some calls and looks like I'll audition these cans later today or tomorrow:
DT880 2005 edition
DT990 Pro
Sony SA5000
Ultrasone Proline 750

No Grados, the only dealer I found will only have them 1-2 months from now. Shame really.

Can someone tell what's the difference between the Pro and 2005 versions of the DT990?

I found the Sony 5000 bright and a bit bass lite with a comparable sound signature to the Grado 325i but the Sony had better soundstage.
