I'm looking for a pair of studio headphones, heavy on the low end.

I'm leaning toward the Dt-770 Pro's (80ohms). Are there any other cans out there around the 200 dollar range?

The DT770 Pro 80-Ohm sound best with a decent headphone amp.

I figured, a lot of people are saying that the 770's are powered just fine by iPods, laptops ect...

Apple products usually come with decent audio support.
Not sure what to say about laptop users.

So I should be fine powering the 770's with an iPod while I'm out?

Unless by "laptop" you mean an old "netbook" then you can power 80 ohms through laptop no problem. If it is to say that it won't sound its best w/o amp then the question is rhetorical as most cans tend to sound 'better' with amp.

80 ohms on ipod is fine too. The batteries won't last you as long as a <32ohm headphone but still doable. In a decently quiet area (the store in question where I tested) I had to put the volume to half ~ a bit past half of max volume to get to a comfortable listening level. Though as I was comparing headphones I suspect I had it louder than I usually would have it.

Definitely not the MkII's, far too uncomfortable for what I want them for. I need a studio/personal use headphone and I can't wear the MkII's for more than twenty minutes.
