Never heard Aune m2 but i'm pretty sure I avoided all Aunes due to no EQ on any model.

The ihifi990 is perfect for brutal Metal or the identical (but black ) ATC HDA-DP20 an amazing sounding dap with some expensive components not even used by my expensive players.

HI im looking for first portable player
i stoped on the xuelin ihifi990 and the Aune m2
which one is better?
i listen to brutal metal

i listen to almost all genre of metal(death,melodic,extreme,progressive,doom,brutal..etc) and i think ihifi990 is good for metal, however i also think its treble bit recessed and micro details isn't as impressive as newer DAPs..most probably its the wolfson DAC fault, its good but really old, still really good choice if you listen ONLY to the extreme stuff like black or brutal metal.

if you want my advice, go with any player with cirrus logic newer DAC, i feel their DACs are best when come to metal.

example of players:
cowon plenue D2 or cowon plenue V
bit audio opus#1
activio CT10

you want something cheaper then you can try xduoo x3 or the newer ziku hk-x9(currently waiting for the latter..only 50$).

i also had great time listening to metal with FiiO X3ii, perhaps fiio newer model still good but not sure.

Shanling M0 is also pretty good even tho not cirrus logic.

try to stay away from AKM dac, so far not impressed with them for metal.

And blackend version of both.
Im making trasformation from cellphone to hifi player as understood better sound quality.
However im an old fasion guy, i belive a player need to be focused on music without all that wifi touchscreen etc... crap.
Is there an owner of both
devices who could suggest whitch ine will do a better job

Hi, I owned both, and to me there Is a huge gap between the two.

M2 Is One of the best dap for its price range I ever had the occasion to listen to.

Still worthy 400 eur, if found below that price, then go for It.

For that difference in price, I would still go for the M2 over the 990 though.

Oh yeaaaaaaah, finally got round to upgrading the 2 x WM8740 DACs to 2 x WM8741 DACs

Sounds freaking awesome, more detail, soundstage and low end.

Just throwing this out there... consider the Radsone ES100 bluetooth receiver/dac (but only if you want to rid yourself of daps).

Just replaced the 2 x AD6810ARZ with 2 x ADA4627-1BRZ High Precision Amplifiers and added TDK noise suppressant sheet to all ICs.

Improved yet again, wider soundstage from the cap bypass, and wow! even more detail from the OPA1622 opamp using a custom board from plutonim (russia) Its as good as ANY top end dap i've heard /got !
