iFi Zen Stream: Setup, Tips, Tricks...

The biggest reason I went with the 12 volt SBooster. I have many devices that can use 12 volts. I don't own any 15 volt devices. So It lets my Sbooster be more compatible with my gear. So it has a better value to me.

To be honest. Im scared to put my UPtone js2 on the ifs streamer. I might not want to go back to the SBooster. Sometimes you have to know when to stop.
I use Uptone's ethernet switch. I can't even think about using a normal switch now for streaming. I made the mistake of putting a Uptone ethernet switch on my Apple TV. Wife took it from me. Ouch. She doesn't know it cost 600 dollars! SHHHHHHHHHH
I understand your point and at some point of time, I assume there is a limit how we can improve the sound of a $600 (CAN) device thus I was wondering.... Regarding you other question re AIO vs Tidal mode, I made some testing again this morning and I THINK the sound at setting 3 is slightly better (more delicate) but if somebody tell me it is a placebo effect, I won't argue with him

I just wish they made some 18v psu's for my pro-ject phonostage in the ipower x price range.

Does the latest beta firmware cause the sample rate led to always be yellow?

It would be nice if ifi. Made a ifi ethernet switch. Hint

Who knows, maybe one day we will :)

ZEN Stream's sample rate LED shows what this product receives and its firmware didn't change anything in this regard. I'd double-check whether data you send out to ZEN Stream is in its native form. By the looks of it there might be some upsampling going on :)

I'm referring to BETA firmware 2.31.2

someone else said this on another thread where I asked the same question:

"Yes, according to the message it was to be more inline with Tidal, universally accepted color schemes…

There was a post by @Sebastien Chiu about the change some pages back!"

192 displays white, while most other sample rates are yellow on this BETA firmware.

I would like to be able to customize the LED profile in the future if possible.

Hi! I am very interested in this product ... the main use I would like to make of it is to play music from a USB device. does the device manage the local library on usb well? how does it behave with flac + cue? Thanks in advance.

Maybe I've missed something, so let us ask @Sebastien Chiu whether he knows anything about that :)

With the Hypsos, I tested a range of voltages and 15v sounds the best. Getting an ifi elite 15v sounds better over the Hypsos.
Are you saying the iFi Elite 15v sounds better than the much more expensive Hypsos with the Zen Stream? Or have you even received the Elite yet?

Elite is much better than hypsos on all devices I've tried.
That is quite the statement considering the price difference! Thanks for the feedback.

Just on the discontinued micro ican se, I battled the hypsos 15v vs ifi elite 15v. There's a bit of edge and noticable noise floor, and affected timing with the Hypsos. My hypsos is modded as well. So I'm just eye rolling on the hype on the OOR + hypsos and people doing high gain on it and highly recommending that stack.

As an alternative to this wired method, me and a few of my friends have better SQ when having the cellphone on hot spot mode and having the ZS connect to that. The down side is tidal connect doesn't work but I've been getting better SQ anyways with Bubbleupnp for mqa dacs and mconnect for non mqa dacs.

Im pretty happy now with my ifs streamer on 13.5 volts. Its so close to my lumin U1 mini now. I don't feel the need to buy another lumin/Sbooster
Hi Musicguy,I also am using an
S booster with my Zen stream, set to 13.5 V. Quite good for sure, What Dac are you using with yours? I am using a Nordost Heimdall 2 Usb cable into a Musical Fidelity MX Dac.
Upgrades are on hold for me now, until I can afford something that convinces me I need to change.:)
