iFi ZEN DAC Signature V2 Impressions
Oct 31, 2022 at 9:04 AM Post #31 of 43
I have bought the following USB C to USB B cable:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cable-Matt...c+to+to+usb+b+3.0+cable+matters,aps,91&sr=8-1

This cable works fine connected directly from my z fold 3 to the Signature V2 but there is no USB OTG cable in between. Could you please advise on whether it is ok to use this type of cable?

Z Fold 3 ---> USB C to USB B Cable -----------------------------------------------> Zen DAC Signature V2

Or, would you recommend buying a USB OTG cable and using a USB B to USB A cable to go from the USB OTG cable to the Signature V2?

Z Fold 3 ------> USB OTG -> USB A to USB B Cable ------------------------------> Zen DAC Signature V2

Thank you so much for any advice :)

If that USB C to USB B cable works for you, it's perfectly fine. There's no need to add anything extra if the connection is stable. Hope this helps, thanks :)

My unit arrived!
I posted a (quick) review!
I am very pleased, a few things could be better (power button, longer cable), but i like this thing very much and it's the perfect pairing with my IEM's.
The volume knob is oustanding for the price, good job there! I will have a lot of fun with this unit! I can totally see the recommendations as an entry level unit.

Sounds like you got the ZEN DAC V2 and not the signature model?

But please do share impressions and comparisons :)

That's the review, not much comparison, i just bought this thing mainly for IEM's. Yes, just the all in one unit. I had a JDS Labs El Amp II at the very start of my hifi journey and it was "okish", i like the Zen Dac V2 more, i always had a strong audible static noise when i turned the volume knob on that thing... Power was more on the El Amp (but not even close to the Ferrum powerhouse), but i didn't want to use it for IEM's since it has no balanced out and a lot of my IEM's have a 4.4 connector (also that static noise was bad).
I can highly recommend it as a first, good, clean unit. You don't need much else until you get to demanding headphones. The volume knob is superb.

Thanks a lot for that review, that's a great and honest work right there!

@iFi audio , can you clarify what is the difference between Zen Dac Signature V1 & V2? The compare page on ifi website shows everything same except for MQA Decoding vs rendering. Other than MQA are there any internal hardware changes that make v2 better than v1?

It's been a while since the last time someone asked us about that! I think that the main difference narrowed down to a more powerful XMOS chip in the V2, but I'd have to double-check that.

For what it's worth I'm enjoying my Zen Dac Signature V2. There's something about it that makes music listenable and non fatiguing, if you like.

Note, it doesn't have xlr out, but 4.4 mm pentaconn. I'm using single ended rca out without problem. Also, it does take over volume control from windows 10.

Thanks, that's very kind of you :)

Yup. Luckily there are many cables with 4.4mm on one end and 3-/4-pin XLRs on the other :)

Are you using the headphone directly from the rca out on the SignatureV2?

Im considering soing the same with balanced/4.4 out to Arya Organic

Our sincere advice is to use a headphone out instead :)
