iFi micro iDSD Black-Label - In-Depth Review
Oct 17, 2021 at 2:38 PM Post #886 of 1,056
Is it possible to output the signal through "direct" RCA to an external device, and then feed the signal to 3.5 aux and have it go through the headphone amplifier circuit to output 6.3?

To answer that question I'd like to first understand what would you like to do in the context of your setup. This is just my guess, but are you interested in bypassing iDSD BL's digital circuit?

I'm trying to get new emotions from sound. And now I think what to do: either buy headphones of a new format for myself - in-ear (I always wore full-size ones), or try to improve something with what I have on hand - ifi black label and jvc sz2000. For ifi, I have already bought 3 new operational amplifiers and 8 panasonic os-con capacitors of larger capacity, when I have free time and a new soldering iron arrives, I will try to re-solder (I need to pray so as not to break anything). Now we need to deal with the headphones, which I don't really want to change because of their incredible bass, but I want to improve them in some way. And the only thing that comes to mind is to divide the sound stream into 2 speakers (LF and MF / HF). There is no exact solution, there is still an idea to get the signal from the DAC at the "direct" RCA output, then pass it through an external active crossover and run one of the output channels (most likely MF / HF) through the 3.5 aux black label to the amplifying part. And the second channel through another external amplifier (just one is lying around for almost a year)

I'd have to double-check, but I'm prettu sure that micro iDSD BL can't output signal via RCAs and accept it on AUX (it's an input) at the same time.

Guys,

My unit has suffered the dreaded IEMatch switch issue where changing it from off to any other position results in channel imbalance or total channel cutout.

I've also realized that middle or "Normal" gain seems to have a slight, but fatiguing distortion or ringing to it in the upper mids or highs... That must be why I almost always either go with Eco gain level or Turbo. This is in the amp section with any external dac feeding the unit.

Finally, the DAC seems grainy and unrefined. Anyone share these impressions? Not sure if I noticed these things from new as I've been using it more for it's amp section.

Wonder if my unit has always been like this or it's something to do with the IEMatch switch causing issues or just my unit getting on in age.

Hi, apparently you have the same problem as me. If so, the problem is the wear of the iematch switch contacts. I am temporarily helped by using the WD-40 contact cleaner spray. I also try not to use the switch after processing, otherwise the problem quickly returns, because the metal is not alive and does not recover itself and it is just a crutch.

Thanks for the reply man...

Yes it's definitely a flawed switch design for it to be so delicate. I remember the same issue happening with the unit that I was testing in-store, but thought that was probably not going to happen to mine since it wouldn't see as much wear and tear as a demo unit, but well it did happen! I think another guy also posted here on his unit having the same issue and I recall he posted close-up shots of the IEMatch switch on his. A secondhand unit that I saw on sale in my local classifieds also mentioned his having the same issue.

I hope they've improved on it for follow-up models like the Signature and the Diablo.

The most annoying thing is that Ifi does not want to disclose the switch model, although there is no reason for this. So people could buy the same and get rid of the problem. I myself cannot find a suitable one and I have to suffer (
From time to time I continue to search, if I find it and replace it successfully, I will certainly post the result here.

As you know, we handle any such repairs via our support and we also take care of products after warranty :)
In fact, you have an excellent replacement policy if you have a purchase receipt (which is logical). But personally, I do not have a receipt and I have already tried to find out the switch model from your support on the site: a refusal was received. I cannot present any objective claims to Ifi, since you offered me a replacement, but there is no receipt and this is not your fault. And to be honest, in my case it is better and easier for me to buy and replace the necessary component myself. All I wanted to know is the switch model, but if you don’t give it, then I can’t say something bad (this is your right and you are making a replacement), I just accept this fact and say my personal opinion "this is strange / annoying"

Thanks...

I already messaged you guys and was told to bring the unit to where I bought it in Singapore to get it checked instead of send it to you guys in the UK. The CS person then immediately closed the case. I thought that was rather abrupt a response.

I don't see how the retailer I bought it from is going to have the knowledge to fix the thing unless you guys send out a service memo containing a list of commonly reported flaws (and replacement parts) to your retailers all over the world every now and then so retail staff can diagnose and fix the units?!

I personally would think of some other solution rather than get the identical switch. If there was a better-designed or more robust switch out there than can be hacked into place properly, then that might be better than going with the same switch which is likely to fail again eventually. Again, that makes me wonder if a better designed switch was put into the Signature.

If you still have it, can you please send me via PM your ticket number? Thanks!

And in the event of any failure, a shop where you bought a product is your first contact, just so that shop's employee can confirm the issue and offer a replacement unit, repair or refund. As the manufacturer we support our resellers/distributors :)

I understand that from your perspective this might be annoying, especially if you could make a repair on your own.

Hi guys,

In 300 Ohm load, how much mWatt can output iDSD BL in Eco mode?

Thanks
