iFi iPurifier: audio+power purification. Tested by Jcue deejay on his DJ rig!

Hi,

Any pics of the iPurifier in your setup?

Especially alongside the Roxannes? We are intrigued.

I am using my FIIO X5 as an USB DAC. Guess that USB-B-to-micro-USB cable is not ideal for the setup but it's the only adapter I have right now.

Nice! Give it a good hard bit of running it - the iPurifier can take it!

Well I just picked up the iFi micro usb power supply to try with my computer set up. I mostly use my desk top sound system to watch Netflix movies . After  a couple of days use I can attest to the benefits of isolating the computer usb power supply from the dac. I have a Teac ud-501 dac I use with my Emotiva Airmotiv 5 active monitors. The effect has been very prolific already. the sound of my desk top set up has improved dramatically .I will investigate the Gemini usb cable at some point in the future to see what the benefit of isolating the usb signal from the usb power . I just wish it was cheaper the Gemini Usb cable costs more than the power supply in  1.5 meter length .

Well it is day 4 on my micro usb power supply and the change in the sound of my desk top has been huge. The power supply really works . The clarity, soundstage and steering effects are in an entirely different  league with the addition of the micro power supply. My teac ud-501 is so much better sounding . I am hearing things that I just have not heard before on my desk top. The quality of the bass has also taken a  step or two for the better. The dynamics have also improved noticeably . Things sound so much more powerful . I watched the Avengers on Netflix and the experience is a lot more involving. It should be interesting when I explore the iFi  Gemini usb cable and take full advantage of all the micro power supply has to offer. Separating the usb signal from the usb power.
I will be posting the results when I explore that avenue. For now I heartily recommend the iFi micro usb power supply. It is definitely not only a winner but a game changer as well .

Hopefully IFi can chime in here.  My dac doesn't use 5Vdc power on the bus.  Will the iFi provide any benefit to my setup if it's just passing the data through it?

Hi,

iPurifier filters the audio and power lines.

But if your DAC does not use power, then only the audio line is filtered.

Best you try it first - just find a dealer near to you from our website.

Thanks.

OK, how is the audio filtered?  What?  Any objective data I can see?

Hi,

With the iPurifier:

5dB reduction in EMI noise:

We have HP Dv5 (Dual-Core Nvidia etc) and Dell Inspiron Duo (Single Core, bare minimum PC). The iPurifier has a greater benefit with the former than with the latter.

But as always try it for yourself. The noisier the computer, the greater the benefit and vice versa.

For Immediate Release:

iPurifier

Putting the analogue back into USB audio

London, U.K. –  20th December 2013

At the cutting-edge of computer audio technology, the iPurifier is another ‘USB audio-quality improvement’ product and a ‘world’s first.’ It is a USB audio + data active purification device:

  1. At the end of the ‘digital chain’ at the DAC USB port, the iPurifier enhances EVERY DAC.
  2. iPurifier cleans up the audio and power lines to put the ‘analogue’ back into USB audio.
  3. C:\Users\COMPUT~1\AppData\Local\Temp\msohtmlclip1\01\clip_image001.png
Handles ALL high-res audio formats: PCM/DSD/DXD (USB Audio Class 2.0 and beyond).

The USB standard was not designed for high-quality audio: audio/power/ground are all ‘lumped into’ one cable.

This is akin to placing audio interconnects and power cables together – which is far from ideal. Electro Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) issues inevitably arise, characterised by a harsh, edgy sound.

C:\Users\COMPUT~1\AppData\Local\Temp\msohtmlclip1\01\clip_image001.png
The iPurifier cleans and filters at the end of the digital chain; just prior to the digital signal entering the DAC[1].
The specially-designed circuit restores the ‘signal waveform’ and puts the ‘analogue’ back into USB audio for a true, life-like presentation.

[1] For maximum sonic results we recommend the iPurifier to be used together with the iUSB Power (for pure, clean power) and the Gemini Dual-Headed USB cable (to carry audio + power separately).

Future-proofed, it is able to handle high-resolution PCM/DSD and DXD: all DACs gain a sonic uplift.

Technologies
·         PurePurification® technology removes unwanted EMI from USB audio + power
·         iPurifier removes DC offset and rebalances the USB audio for perfect transmission
·         Compliant with USB Audio Class 2.0 (handles PCM/DXD/DSD)

Specifications
High-Speed USB Audio Class 2.0 (384kHz and beyond supported)
Impedance: 90 ohms

Connectors: FINAL machined-alloy chassis

The retail price of the iPurifier is US$99 (ex-tax) or Euro99 / £83 (with VAT).

Hi,
Would like to find out iPurifier deal with ground loop related noise? My source (windows tablet) will bring noise to my DAC (Matrix Mini-i Pro & Nano iDSD, both do not required +5v from USB) when connected to the power adaptor. Using the 2 prong to 3 prong power adapter (so earth not connected) will reduce the noise (from noisy to flat humming). However, when powered by windows tablet using built-in battery no noise at all.
My question is will iPurifier able to reduce the remaining ground loop? Please do not ask me to try first, dealer in my country do not provide such benefit.

Another question (but might not in right forum), my Samsung windows tablet is using 12v 3.3a SMPS power adaptor, and SMPS is notorious of bringing noise to USB Dac. Anyone here ever try to replace their notebook/tablet psu to linear psu and able to eliminate ground loop? I knew a lot are doing it for their DAC, but I cannot find any post that using linear psu on notebook/tablet.

Assume iPurifier able to eliminate ground loop, between iPurifier and linear psu, which one is worth buying?

Have you guys at iFi ever thought of a a USB A version of this?

Hi, I'm looking to improve the detail and soundstage of my setup.

iMac - Arcam rPac - Sony MDR-1A

If you could choose either an iPurifier or Mercury cable which one would bring biggest benefits on there own?

Cheers, J

Hi,

Only the iUSB Power with its IsoEarth - breaks-up ground loop issues.

The iPurifier does not.

But every system is different - so best to either contact iFi support and we will try our best or to contact a local iFi dealer and try these products first.

Cheers.
