iFi iPurifier: audio+power purification. Tested by Jcue deejay on his DJ rig!

Hi, I'm looking to improve the detail and soundstage of my setup.

iMac - Arcam rPac - Sony MDR-1A

If you could choose either an iPurifier or Mercury cable which one would bring biggest benefits on there own?

Cheers, J

Hi,

You have an iMAC which is a serious PC and one that is typically quite noisy (compared to say, a single core, Dell Inspiron).

The best bang for the buck is the iUSB Power as that supplies a clean mains.

In descending order of sonic impact, we would say:

1. iUSB Power
2. Mercury/Gemini
3. iPurifier

But as always, try first.

And there is an element of system dependent as there are noisier and less noisy computers.

Cheers.

OK, how is the audio filtered?  What?  Any objective data I can see?

Hi,

The 1st page outlines the background info.

Objective data:

http://ifi-audio.com/portfolio-view/accessory-ipurifier/

Taken directly at the computer’s USB port, EMI noise is typically some 39dB. With the iPurifier in place, this noise drops by some 5dB to 34dB.

Among the audio measurement devices, we have an Audio Precision 2.

We only mentioned this objectively measured data to directly answer your question. Notwithstanding, we always recommend to our customers that try it first and see how it works in your system.

Cheers.

Yesterday I broke down and purchased the Gemini usb cable for my ifi usb power supply and after only a few hours the difference in the sound quality of my desk top set up is quite large .  For one the sound is much more refined and I am enjoying the  benefits of isolating the signal from the dirty power from the usb . I have recently made several changes to my desk top set up . I upgraded the power cords on my desk top active monitors and the xlr balanced cables to the monitors. The change was much for the better but when I installed the ifi Gemini usb cable I would have to honestly say the change in sound quality was at least as large and possibly even greater than either of my other two upgrades . For anyone looking to  upgrade the sound of their desk top set ups I can heatily recommend that if you purchase the ifi usb power supply and matching Gemini usb cable you will not regret it . In fact for less than 500 usd I can not imagine a better spent 500 usd .

It's very interesting! Care to share what improvements did you heard exactly?

I know this thread is old, but I'm looking for advice. Just picked up a secondhand purifier that has been unsuccessful in working inside my chain. I'm just running JRMC from my MBP to a USB DAC (Bladelius) and everytime I put the ifi in the chain, the computer stops recognizing the DAC.

Thoughts?
