iFi audio's worst kept secret: the hip-dac!
Nov 13, 2020 at 7:48 PM Post #511 of 794
Any digital filter is a matter of one's own taste. Many folks like our GTO but some return to previous firmware. I wouldn't rely on any feedback here as this is too subjective. If you like how your hip-dac sounds with PCM files, I wouldn't change anything :)

It's a small chance, but it might happen.

Since MQA is your primary focus and there's no difference 5.3 and 5.3c firmware in this regard, please use the one you have installed now.
I forgot to ask if I do update to the GTO 5.3c firmware will the led lights remain the same colour or will MQA content still turn Magenta?

I updated today. No idea what it actually did. I get the M11 Pro Monday, and will compare. Huge price difference obviously, but m11 pro is a bit more portable. Not sure if it really matters as I tend to listen at home anyway and use my Cambridge Melomania 1 on the go (best tws by far. Use the comply 600 tips).

Let me check on that and get back to you - I believe the color will not be affected after the update.

Is there any way to get a line out from the iFi hip dac?

Nope, it was designed as a DAC/amp combo witho no option to bypass its volume control.

I got a ifi Zen DAC for home use. Sounds like you need one of these as it has a line out. The same signature as a Hip DAC.

ZEN DAC is essentially a hip-dac for desktop, yes :)

Our GTO is applied only to PCM data, so it doesn't work for MQA and DSD.

Fun fact: MQA can't be manipulated in any way to be MQA, so any filters (such as the GTO) can't apply.

Thanks for the feedback. Just to clarify, do I download the USB driver (for Windows) and then download the GTO firmware?

Edit: I managed to do the firmware update to GTO 5.3c - the results are remarkable. The soundstage has opened up and the separation has improved. The music feels more dynamic. I’m impressed with this firmware update!

The GTO is embedded in this firmware, so you don't have to do anything else :)

I recently got an OTG cable (not camera kit) for my iPhone and was surprised how good it sounded. It even lit magenta for tidal masters. I’m really liking this little unit.

That Magneta light is always a nice warm feeling to get - glad you're having such a great time with it!

Hi, there is a setting to use Tidal (with exclusive mode, otherwise MQA doesn't work) and Peace EQ in windows?? , exclusive mode avoid any post process
Or may be make mqa work without exclusive mode (here Peace do works)
