iFi audio's worst kept secret: the hip-dac!

I saw the manual. So shouldn't the green light turn on in HIFI quality? (in tidal)

If MQA playback via Tidal is engaged, your hip-dac should display magenta LED. If this doesn't happen, I'd take a look at Tidal's settings. Also, if you see only yellow LED for PCM files, maybe your hip-dac has a 5.3c firmware installed, that effectively applies our GTO filter to every PCM stream and results in yellow LED regardless of bitrate, excluding MQA and DSD.

So it is okay to turn on the yellow light in tidal for PCM, right? I use android. I understand that to reproduce MQA I need to have UAPP. Then the light would change to magenta right?

One last question, does it work if I charge the hip dac with my fast charging charger from my phone (android). Thanks for answering iFi.

It's fine, LEDs are there to display what type of data our DAC products receive.

Yup. In short, MQA has to leave a sfotware and a device in bit-perfect mode. MQA has to remain intact to remain MQA. Many Android devices process audio stream and UAPP bypasses their audio engines to allow for bit-perfect playback. Bit-perfect means no data alteration, hence it unlocks MQA and magenta LED.

Just make sure it's within these specs: charging via USB-C, BC V1.2 compliant up to 1000 mA charging current.

My review of Hip Dac is up guys, what do you think? I wish it could have BT option, even like 05BL made for Xduoo XD-05.

Considering hip-dac's price point and stuff it already packs inside its tiny enclosure, BT wasn't possible.
