iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

Ok. I plugged the ZS to the Dragonfly Black, which output to my preamp. When I play Tidal via Tidal Connect, I no longer get the buzzing noise when I pause a song. But, when I pause and then restart a song, I get about 2 seconds of high pitched static (reminds me of when I used to fast forward a cassette tape while on play). So, I’m guessing it is probably the ZS’s implementation of Tidal Connect. I have another one coming next week, so I can compare them.
Do you remember if when that happened if it was an Tidal Master or just standard Flac?

Sorry for so many questions but with so many possible issues surrounding either Tidal or the Zen/Tidal its good to have clarity about exactly where the issues occur.

Earlier in this thread we were discussing Master files and how certain ones were giving a weird electrical type noise, being I'm blessed with every streaming service right now I can check a lot of stuff sometimes very quickly so if there's already an answer, it's good to have!

Hey there good news is it's in now way your BF2!!! One of my most favorite things!🤣🤣

No worries at all about the questions. Any input is appreciated. I‘m just trying to figure this out as well.

Using Tidal Connect:

When ZS (usb) —> Dragonfly, the 2-second high pitched noise when I restart a track only happens with MQA files, not with non-MQA files.
When ZS (usb) —> BF2, the buzzing noise happens when I pause a track with both MQA and non-MQA files.
When ZS (coax) —> BF2, no issues with either MQA and non-MQA files.

When I use mconnect to play Tidal in any of the configurations above, I have no issues at all.
Also, when I connect my iPad via a CCK to BF2 (usb) and use the Tidal iOS app, I have no issues at all.

Thanks!

I'm almost 1000 Percent sure you'll get the same result but do you have a computer you can try connect from?

I've been trying to read up on Tidal Connect issues man it's pretty extensive, but one thing seems constant, I'll just paste the screenshot below see if it helps you at all.

Did the last update and connected for 8 houres+DLNA mode mConnect with Qobus. Great sq and only one minor skip in the streaming.
Solid product for the price imo. Futher updates will prob make it more/totaly stable. When will the dedicated IFI app be rolled out?

Thanks! Yes, there will be. We had to pull it at launch and are basically revamping it with user feedback!

I'll give an update when we have a date it will be out there on Play and Apple app stores.

OK, so I've read through this entire thread (68 pages), and I have some questions as I consider adding this to my current iFi Zen stack. I only have one streaming service (Qobuz) and I don't have any local files I want to stream. What I'm looking to do is basically "disconnect" my iFi Zen stack from my computer to eliminate the noise in the audio path that is inherent to using a PC as your signal source.

Given my requirements, could I stream Qobuz directly to the Zen Stream from my PC or Pixel 4a and would I get the bit-perfect connection up to 24-bit/192kHz like I get with a direct USB connection in exclusive mode through the Qobuz PC app?

I've seen mention of Roon / Audirvana and the like but I wouldn't really be taking advantage of the great features of those platforms (local files, multiple endpoints, etc.), so I don't see a need to shell out the cash each month for those. I will say, however, that I understand why people who use those features like those platforms.

So, in order to stream bit perfect from the Qobuz app (PC and / or Android), what if anything would I need to consider to use the Zen Stream in the manner I need?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide!

On Android you can stream Bit Perfect via DLNA using 2 apps. BubbleUPnP and Mconnect. In fact you can switch the Stream to DLNA exclusive mode if you like. Works flawlessly!

I would think your only requirement would probably be M Connect, sorry Roon User But I did buy M Connect to help another forum member, nice app especially with Qobuz lacking their own "Connect" offering at the moment.

It's not expensive perhaps give it a try first see how you like the app!

Of the 2 Android apps, MConnect looks like it brings more of the Qobuz features into the UI, but both are very reasonably priced. Thanks!

I read that Qobuz was doing a beta test of direct DLNA support from the desktop apps (PC and Mac). Has anyone tried using the Qobuz desktop app to connect via DLNA directly? I'm curios if they ever got it to work or if they scrapped it in favor of allowing integration of their library / service into other apps.

I'm just seeing Airplay and Chromecast in the MacOS version, no UPnP.
