iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

thanks, i will try...i should set this in the router, right?
No!
Find an ip adress in the range of your subnet but outside of the DHCP range (so it's not assigned to another device by the router and configure that adress in the Zen Stream app.
So e.g your subnet is 193.169.1 and DHCP range is e.g
193.169.1.10 - 193.169.1.100
You can then e.g assign 193.169.1.101 as the static ip for Zen Stream

one more question: does iFi zen support airplay 2 now? (i read that it was "promised" upon its release) or is it still airplay?
I do not recall Airplay 2 ever being promised, but that could be me.

You didn't ask anything stupid, even though I cannot see what you responded to, there are no stupid questions here, stupid, snide answers I am sure, but all questions are valid.

Cheers!!

Hi I have bought the Ifi zen stream and Im not getting this with mqa.
My dac dont have mqa but can I still get mqa? Does the Ifi zen unpack?

Or if I put it this way, how do I get the best soundqaulity if my DAC have 24 bit/195kHz? And only spdif

Qobus?
Tidal?

The iFi Zen stream can do the first unfold of MQA, and it has options to do Passthru to a Full Decoder renderer if needed.

Best sound quality can only be determined by your ears, so as most streaming services have free trials so try them all!

Tidal claims the best Quality is MQA, so if you do not have MQA equipment (decoder) to me that means you are only getting partial Quality without the equipment to do the full three unfolds.

Qobuz is just straight Lossless streaming of Hi-Rez files, however at the moment there is no Qobuz "Connect" feature available so a third-party app like MConnect or Roon is needed to stream Qobuz from the Zen Stream to your DAC over Spdif, you can also get a free trial of Roon, and the Mconnect app is approx. 5 dollars US.

Hope I didn't make it more confusing for you!

Cheers!!

Thanx.
Well I still dont get the MQA thing. The ZS unfold mqa but just partly? So the dac still need to be an MQA dac?

So I guess that Qobus will be better then.
I’ll have a look at those third part.

On saturday Im gonna do a test between 3 (or maybe 4) cheap streamer and the different set ups. If I can make it work😅

This all greek to me but I like the convinence with playlist instead of cd and vinyl.

Im not new to hifi, Im just not interested in computers, phones, apps and what not. But if it works I bet its great.

Edit:
I tried to find mcconnect but cant find it.
Im just using an IPhone and I dont own a computer atm. Is this a problem? Do I need a computer to get this working?

Edit2:
Dammit. I just spelled wrong😂
Like I child with no patience.. how is this going to end?. 😁

Even I don't fully understand MQA but in order to get "Full MQA" you need a DAC that will perform all unfolds of the file, so you are correct with "partially" technically,

So in order to do a fair "Sound Quality" test, yes you would need an MQA DAC. Now that doesn't mean you can't compare them, but keep in mind "MQA" is considered by many to be a lossy format by many. I'm sure you can explore that one on your own, lol

Cheers!!

I’ll get back with my findings when I have tried a bit.
I’ll compare HEOS link, bluesound node, Ifi Zen stream and if I can afford I also buy the Aurelic mini.

I have an extremly high res rig to test on.

This is just my introduction in streaming. If I like it and realize there is difference in ”1 and 0” Im gonna have a look at high end streamer down the road. (Such as aurender N10, Metronom, Aurelic etc.)

Atm Im in the midle of renovation of part of my house so Im kinda short on money.
But if Im lucky the Zen streamer is good enough.

Have you or anyone else anything to say about wich power supply that is the best and also power cable for it.
Should I go for supernova and Ipower Elite or are there even better options thats recomended?

With regard to Power Supply, the IPower X 12v should be fine. That's what I use with excellent results.
MConnect Player costs about 5USD. You should be able to find it in the Apple Store for Iphone. Don't buy MConnect HD because that's for Ipad.
Should you want to try Tidal Connect with the Tidal MQA subscription, with should disable the MQA passthrough, in which case the Zen Stream does the first unfold. If your DAC is fully MQA capable (renderer and decoder), you better activate the passthrough and let your DAC do the whole process. Either way, you should have good sound. If you're using TIDAL HIFI (no MQA) you don't need to worry about such things, and the sound is equally fine. I prefer Quobuz but TIDAL is fine.
My experience with the Zen Stream has been very good, using ethernet, for almost a year now. Hope you enjoy it.

Does anyone ever get this error with Zen Stream using Tidal connect? (Windows 10 - PC app)

I've had the Zen Stream since last Thursday and it has worked on/off with Tidal connect but constantly throwing up this error, once it happens I have no way of solving it, turning the device on/off, reconnect to my network, factory reset the stream / fresh start, reinstall the Tidal app, clear the cache, nothing can resolve it so far. When you select the zen stream on tidal connect it puts up the error, changing tracks doesn't help, but then maybe you try again in a few hours or tomorrow it works for a while.

At this stage I really like the sound but the zen stream isn't working consistently enough for me with Tidal to keep it I think.

(You can also see a Bluesound Node I2 in the connect options, doesn't have the same problem, works fine)

I'm also going to contact Tidal incase its an error from their end.
