iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

Yes it did. All was perfect before firmware update 2.31.7. Thank you for your support.
I swear I experienced the exact same problem several times before the firmware update. I had to factory reset my ZS several times, always after I accidentally disconnected my DAC from the ZS when it was running.

With the latest firmware, the DSD settings can be modified in Roon in the software audio setup, with the ZS on “Roon Exclusive” mode, and that solved the problem for me. Fortunately at DSD 64 the performance of DOP should be equivalent to native DSD, but with a DAC like yours you should be able to achieve all the way up to 256. Let’s see what @iFi audio says. Best of luck…

@iFi audio, could you PLEASE look into improving your app so that I can choose the zen stream i need to access. I have two streams and the app randomly selects one of them. Right now I have to resort to typing in the ip address of the zen stream I wish to access.

Interesting…what happens when you type in ifi.local? Does it find one of them randomly?

Maybe this will help, Under the system settings in the iFi.local GUI, you can name your ZS. Default is set to “ifi” so you can type iFi.local to access settings. You can set one as ifi1 and the other as ifi2, then type ifi1.local or ifi2.local to access each one, The system GUI has the same exact features as the app. Good luck!

Just bought a Zen Stream and got it up and running. Sound is very very good. All the lights were the right colour. Updated from old firmware to new firmware and now sample rate light is stuck on yellow. Still outputting correct sample rate to Chord Mojo 2. Tried best to set everything right, no success. Also Mojo is now merged with Zen in Roon. Again not really a problem, but preferred it before on older firmware.
Some people have talked about switching the lights off on the unit- is that possible in the iFi settings?

The colors have changed in the latest update, see the updated manual here: https://ifi-audio.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/ZEN-Stream-User-Manual-Ver1.41_ok.pdf

Roon went from a kind of hacked Roon bridge to a certified Roon Ready device with the latest update.

If I remember correctly the lights were updated to be more in line with Tidal Colors, so now 44.1 and such gives a yellow light.

Yes you can turn the lights off, the button on the right is dual function, just press it shortly (normal button press). Holding it will engage Hotspot mode, so don't do that, lol

Cheers!!

To those having issues with DSD Native, along with the DAC possibly not reporting that it can accept DSD Native, as an alternative check the thread in my sig. for a way to setup your ZS, doesn't take long and has worked for many who are having issues. As @srkbear said make sure your DAC is connected and powered on.

Cheers!!

Trying to keep the upgrade fever in check as I'm sure we all are. I've poured through all the pages and feedback on PSUs. Verdict seems to be that iPower X and iPower Elite seem to be a good way to go. Prefer to go that way instead of LPS- bit more efficient on electric. Also 12v or 15v seem to be the best choices. Is that the verdict? Anyone have both and/or recommend which voltage and difference? Is it worth 3 times more for the Elite? 12v better vs 15v? iFi Powerstation ordered will arrive in a few weeks so, the difference in the Elite might be smaller vs iPower X.

Aren't we all trying to keep our collective fevers in check?... On a daily basis!! lol

I have done extensive listening with elite and X, my conclusion was the X just felt right for me, and yes at one time I was a believer in none of that mattered! Personally I preferred the 15V but there was not a huge difference between 12v and 15v.

Best advice in all honesty is if you can afford it and can buy from a retailer that has a great return policy get both, spend a whole day or to with one, no switching back and forth, then return the one that doesn't do it for you, that way you don't waste money, and are not thinking of "upgrading" down the road.

I also have several LPS and still the X was the one I liked the most.

If you have other 12v or 15v toys that you can also use on other devices that may sway which one you pick!

Cheers!!

This link contains some short files recorded directly from the ZS using each power supply from iFi that I have tested. The were recorded direct USB into my studio board.

Take a listen see if anything jumps out at you, maybe it can help.

We can only try :D

Although most folks like iPower Elite more, it's cool seeing that iPower X with ZEN Stream gets some love too. Was there any specific reason why iPower X was your primary choice? Thanks!
