iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

Please observe the wait time that is mentioned here on Page 2 - Step 3 here to get the unit into local hotspot mode if you're using WiFi only:

https://ifi-audio.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/ZEN-Stream-Quick-Start-Guide-2.0.pdf
That's what I was trying to get at, I am long setup btw, was trying to help others...

That process can lead to the accidental turning off off the front indicator lights, with the exception of the tiny white one under the power button. Which can lead someone to believe that the power is not in when indeed it is.

I ran thru several setup scenarios today, and even found in one of them that the lights on the front never illuminated, believer that was at 14.7v

So, long and short of it is for my money, best setup practice is wired, then setup everything else thru iFI.local . Once that is done you can use it anyway and anywhere you like. But alas very few will actually read previous posts and or pages back so , 🤣🤣🤣 cest' la vie!!

I tried many things except reset but it does not boot up but does seem to get power.
I guess I would have to send it quickly unless iFi support turns up to help.
We may head for a lockdown in our locality. I am a consultant physician who manages Covid-19 at ICUs. I will not have time to look into this. Today had been my free day.
Music and hobby on these audiophile gear had been a stress reliever for me who faces the darkness of suffering and death every day.
@iFi audio Would they help me as I need to send it soon, if not?

I guess I was miss stating my issue saying no power.
Yes it obviously has power as the single little light next to power button is on.
What I meant by won't power up is that as above it won't boot up.
But it is being exchanged so hopefully better luck with the next one.
Thank you everyone!

Exactly! It gets the power to the circuitry but does not boot up. I guess Our units have an issue with the bootup process. May even be a software issue. I hope it could be forced or re-flashed with its USB-C port to revive. For the phones, of course, there are key combinations that could make them forcing to a boot menu. Subsequently, they could be re-flashed with firmware. I guess if that could be done that is the only hope for me to avoid an expensive shipping journey.

Any reply from iFi support yet?

I've posted my initial impressions here: https://blog.dsnyder.ws-e.com/index.php/2021/07/08/zen-for-streaming/

That said, it seems that I'm among others here who received units with defective power adapters. The longer mine is plugged in, the lower the voltage it provides. Specs say its output is 9V, 2A, however, when I initially measured, it was 6.38V DC. After a minute, it had dropped to 6.30V. After another 15 minutes, it's down to 5.48V.

After a few hours of runtime, my ZEN Stream becomes unresponsive. At one point, it started making this loud whistling sound, coming from the back of the ZEN Stream, not the power supply:

https://www.dsnyder.ws-e.com/ts/ZEN_Stream_Noise.mp3

I've switched to an older 9V, 1.5A iPower adapter that came with my micro iUSB3.0. So far, so good. No noise, and no freezes. I also have a 9V, 2.5A iFi iPower X arriving tomorrow to further help with troubleshooting.

I opened a ticket with iFi support, but I may also reach out to MusicDirect. I don't mind doing an exchange, but chances are that I'd just get another unit with a defective power supply. I'd prefer for iFi to send out a replacement iPower or offer $50 credit to me towards the purchase of my shiny new iPower X. :)

They have!
Hi Mahesh,

Thanks for writing us.

Please make sure it's set on 1-AIO on the back.

After turning it on by pressing the power button briefly, did you wait for at least 2 minutes?

You should see what's in these two videos, pick the connection you'd like to setup.

If you do not see the red LED light on the left, you may need to factory reset by following the instructions below EXACTLY. Before you start, have you pushed the RESET button through the hole on the back previously already?
