iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

I only have 9V and 12V available and concur, 12V seems better.

Amazing that the unit is running cooler with my new 12V lpsu than with the OEM same voltage wall plug or with the 9V IFi iPower X unit. Looks like clean power not only sounds better but also generates less heat.

Curious cable in the house! Evolver Regen Link long enough to connect the Stream to my X-SPDIF 2 DDC. Sounds superb. Now waiting for the Gieseler dual LPSU to arrive so I can feed them both with super clean power. Xmas came early this year :)

Beautiful stuff! Love that design on the cables.

I am having the same issue. Can someone from ifi tell me if this is a software or a hardware issue? I am within my return window, so I can exchange without a problem… @iFi audio

Have you done a reset of the unit? Have you tried running the unit wired?

If these problems still remain after this, I would recommend swapping the unit for another one!

Been running the zen stream with the 12v iPower2 for the last two days and no more crashes/restarts. Seems that iFi ships this unit with an inadequate psu, which seems odd. I don’t notice a change in sound (for better or worse) as other did. Care to comment? @Sebastien Chiu @iFi audio

Mike,

The stock PSU is generally not inadequate. The Stream will happily run on the stock 9v PSU.

There's always a chance that your PSU may be faulty, which causes the issues reported.

PSUs are not perfect, and sometimes are faulty in the perspective that they do not provide consistent outputpower.

As such, the Stream would result in the issues you reported.

Glad the 12v iPower solved your issues!

Hi :)

I bought the ifi Stream when it was available in Germany and had no problems from the beginning.
I don't have a hard drive connected, but I use the ifi Stream in conjunction with ROON and HQPlayer, and everything works great.

Mac Mini M1 -> ROON -> HQPlayer -> ifi Stream -> ifi Pro iDSD.

Everything works as it should, when I put my Mac to sleep, I wake it up the next day, turn on my devices, press play, and listen to my music.
There may be issues with Spotify or Tidal if you use the app, but with ROON everything really works as it should, I can assure you of that.
Before the ifi Stream I had a lot of devices, none could convince me as the ifi Stream.

And no, ifi does not pay me for saying that.

Thanks!

i've spend some time and found 12v to sound the best to me

Thanks, both! I generally agree as well.

My go-to rec for a proper upgrade is a 12v iPower X.

Ipower x is such a underrated ps, it puts out 3amp and 4.5amp for short term peaks

~1uV noise is impressive

To get this clean power out of a LPS is gonna cost a fair bit more

I read that someone in here claim by using ifi power took the enjoyment out of the music. I have ifi ac purifier and followed the placement but my Klipsch treble lost its extension and shimmering of cymbal and became too smooth. Is this how this product supposed to do to make treble smooth? Klipsch are sensitive if anything changes due to its horn loaded tweeter.

@Sebastien Chiu & @iFi audio

Something that I would very much like for the ifi STREAM would be that you can completely disable ALL LEDs.
With the Raspberry this is done with a few entries in the Config.txt, while with the ifi Stream this unfortunately does not work.

A quick update from us to you on Chromecast and the Zen Stream:

The outlook for Chromecast is not so optimistic. Our audiophile community does not seem to be high on Google’s list of priorities. The entire process is proceeding very slowly indeed, much more slowly than we could have anticipated, but we are trying as hard as we can to get this done.

Rest assured, we hope you understand we are still working on it and will continue to provide updates as things progress.
