iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

Factory reset, restart, firmware upgrade and now Spotify works again.

Pretty much what I did (in different order anyway). It would seem the old Spotify Connect setting might have been left over from previous firmware and interfering with the new firmware. A factory reset clean them all up.

Simon

I can't speak directly to those units as I do not have them.

But at the price point of the ZS compared to these others in your wish list, plus the distinct portability of the ZS is what gives it a slight advantage! I don't think I would be taking my Lumin or Aurender on a trip if I had them. But I would have no problem sticking the ZS in my bag for a trip if I could.

I am not here to sway you and certainly understand saving money for something else! But every person who has asked me what I would recommend in a streamer at this point, I have no hesitation in telling them the ZS at it's price is where it's at right now!

Just ask my lonely Cambridge Audio CXN V2, poor thing has been sitting on the shelf unused for 2 months now, :joy: :joy:

Cheers!!

Glad to hear you guys got it sorted. I didn't think that would be an issue, but I will let our team know this is what fixed it as well as the possible cause (old spotify connect setting) as well as what fixed it.

Quite a folks do here and I am sure they would be able to chime in.

Thanks for the great, in-depth, review as always @Ichos!

I upgraded from stock to the iFi iPower X. Love it. I know some folks have had better experience with Sbooster and other LPS options, but I don't see how. The iPower X is pretty sweet. The extra current capacity and greater output capacitance seems to help especially when using the ZEN Stream with a bus-powered DAC. I think it's a worthwhile upgrade for a reasonable price.

80% of the music I listen to is from my hdd. Is it sensible to buy this streamer then?
It depends on the rest of your system. If you're using Roon or HQPlayer, a streamer enables you to move heavy-duty processing to some remote location that's far from your listening room. In that case, a streamer, like the ZEN Stream, may be a significant upgrade to both experience and sound quality. If you're using Aurender or Audirvana, perhaps not.
